Patmos Beaches

Patmos, the island where I would like to spend my old age! A mystical island, with an indescribable energy, one can understand it only by living it, Patmos where time passes with a sometimes almost unreal slowness, where Nature is still wild and wants to remain, where a fantastic sea and pristine beaches they can still be found intact in all their beauty and simplicity.

An island not for everyone for sure but that will know how to leave that nostalgia to which you can no longer do without and you will have to go back again and again and always.

Below we give you a trace of the beaches to visit, but believe me despite the years that I attend it every time I am surprised by new hidden and incredible places that Patmos can give.

Twin Beaches or Didimest

The Twin or Didimes beaches are located in the north east part of the Patmos island. In our opinion they are beautiful, perhaps a little uncomfortable to get there (there is a downhill walk to do but the main problem is the climb after a day at the beach.) but where peace reigns supreme obviously not during peak periods . Here you will truly be you and nature, almost abandoned by everything but believe me it will be one of the most beautiful days of your life. Not at all equipped apart from two trees to find shade, you will be truly like modern Robinson Crusoe so if you decide to spend the day, bring everything you need. To get there you have to follow the road that leads to the Vagia beach and then continue until you see this magnificence of Mother Nature from above.

Vaglia Beach

Vagia Beach in Patmos is located in the north east part of the island, about ten kilometers from Skala the capital. A beautiful bay with a sandy beach with crystal clear and intense blue sea. The bottom drops immediately so be careful if you have small children or you are not good swimmers also because the currents often make themselves felt. The peculiarity of Vagia beach is that the water is colder than the others and at the beginning you will have that moment of thrill. It is not equipped at all, a large tree in the center to have a little shade, nothing more. It is certainly ideal for lovers of tranquility and for those who like to stay in close contact with nature. It is one of our favorites!

Psili Ammos Beach

Psili Ammos beach in Patmos is located in the south west part of the island. Considered one of the most beautiful, it is located in a splendid bay with soft and fine gold colored sand with dunes and tamarics where you can relax and have some shade during the sunniest hours. The sea passes from blue to turquoise to deep blue, transparent and crystalline. The beach is not equipped but there is a tavern where you can stock up on something to drink or eat something. Psili Ammos beach can be reached in two ways, by land with a walk of about half an hour or by sea or by water taxi or with excursions that leave from the Skala port.

Lambi Beach

It is located in the north part about twelve kilometers from the Chora. Lambi beach has a long coastline of small pebbles with a thousand colors with tamarisk trees behind it to shelter from the sun. The blue colored sea with clear and crystalline waters that descend quite quickly act as a side dish. In Greek Lambi means “Shining” and the name is attributed for the reflection of the sun on the stones and the sea. On the beach there is a nice typical tavern serving fresh fish. It is equipped for a stretch, while the other is completely free.

 Livadi Geranou Beach

The Livadi Geranou beach in Patmos, is located in the north east of the island about fourteen kilometers from the Chora. A shoreline of sand and gravel, it is bathed by a transparent turquoise sea. Like an embrace, green trees that give shade during the day. It is not equipped but has a small tavern that serves excellent fresh fish dishes with a magnificent view of the bay. If you are lucky enough to visit it in the spring, you can admire the wild orchids that grow free behind the beach. Reaching Livadi Geranou is very simple, take to the twin beaches and continue following the signs.

Plaki Beach

Plaki beach in Patmos is located in the south part near Petra beach. It is a small shoreline of sand mixed with pebbles with a transparent blue sea and some trees to shelter from the sun. Around the other small bays very intimate but a bit difficult to reach due to the location. It is much loved by naturism. To reach it, just follow the signs for Petra Beach.

Petra Beach

We find it in the south east of the island about six kilometers from the Chora. Petra beach is located in the marshy area and is in a very wild and natural context. It has a shoreline made of pebbles and pink pebbles with an extremely clean and crystalline sea. In front of the Kallikatsou islet where during the winter there are many species of birds such as wild ducks or swans. It is equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas and a characteristic kiosk for something to drink or eat. Reaching it is very simple, just follow the signs for Petra or Grikos.

Agios Nikolaos Beach

It is located in the northern part of the island about twelve kilometers from the Chora. The Agios Nikolaos beach is wild and in a small bay with rocks on the sides where snorkelers can have a great time. The coast is pebbly with small and medium stones, and the sea of an infinite and limpid blue. The seabed is initially low but about a couple of meters from the shore, it drops quickly. All around, some tamarisk trees to shelter from the sun. It is not equipped at all, so bring everything you need for shade if you do not find a place under the trees. Just above the beach a caravan used as a tavern, where you can taste simple dishes but full of taste as the products come from nearby gardens. To get to Agios Nikolaos, you have to get to the Kambos village and at the square, turn left and follow the road.

Meloi Beach

Meloi beach in Patmos one of my favorites. It is located about two kilometers from the Skala port, but despite its proximity to the city center, it still has all its wild and natural charm. It is a long and narrow beach of soft golden sand in the shape of a sickle, bordered by tamarisk trees that provide shade and a crystal clear and almost always peaceful sea. The seabed drops slowly and is ideal for swimming lovers and for those like me who is not a great swimmer. The beach is not equipped so bring everything you need. Behind you can find nice donkeys who love to be pampered and especially eat from your hands. A typical tavern is located on the right side where there is also free parking. The tavern offers classic Greek and local cuisine and has a beautiful view of the bay.

Skala Beach

It is located right in the island capital about three hundred meters from the port. Skala beach has a very narrow and long sandy shoreline, bathed by a clear and calm sea and bordered here and there by tamarisks to shelter from the sun. The crystalline seabed slopes gently, in fact it is taken by storm especially in summer by the Patmos families where the children can have fun and the parents relax perhaps with a milkshake in hand. It is not equipped but you just have to cross the street to find typical cafes and taverns that offer traditional Greek dishes and local delicacies.

 Lefkes Beach

It is located in the northwest part of the island about twelve kilometers from the Chora. Lefkes beach is a very picturesque small bay with a sandy shoreline mixed with pebbles with trees around it to shelter from the sun with a clear blue sea. The seabed is very low, therefore suitable for families with children. The beach is not equipped so as always bring everything you need if you decide to spend the day.

Grikos Beach

Grikos Beach in Patmos is located in the south east part of the island about five kilometers from Skala and Chora. The picturesque village in recent years has turned into one of the most popular areas of vacationers. The beach in the pretty bay is of sand mixed with flat pebbles with a light color and is bathed by a transparent and almost always calm sea. The seabed descends gently so it is ideal for families with children and snorkelers. It is equipped with sun beds and umbrellas and also offers water sports. Behind the village that offers many typical taverns where you can taste excellent fish while admiring the sea. At sunset, everything becomes almost magical. Grikos beach is reached by a comfortable asphalted road. If you want a slightly quieter area, just move about two hundred meters to the right and you will find a nice little beach equal to that of Grikos with just behind a delicious tavern with an extremely Greek flavor to try.

Kambos Beach

It is located in the central part of the island on the east side. About ten kilometers from the capital Skala and six hundred meters below the homonymous village. The Kambos beach has a long beach of about two kilometers of fine gravel at times coarser, with an intense turquoise sea, clear and clean with tamarisk trees around it sheltering from the hot Hellenic sun during the sultry days. It is very equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas and a wide choice of water sports such as canoeing, windsurfing where young and old can have lots of fun. As soon as you cross the road, some taverns where you can taste traditional local dishes based on fresh products. It is also very beautiful in the evening for a romantic dinner maybe with feet directly on the sand as some taverns are right under the trees on the beach. Reaching it is extremely simple, just follow the signs for Kampos and at the square keep right and go down the paved road if you have your own vehicle, or by bus that leaves from Skala.

Agrilovado Beach

Located in the northern part of the island about three kilometers from Skala, we find Agrilovado beach. A beautiful bay with a sandy-pebble beach with trees behind it to shelter from the sun, and sinuous hills that make the landscape very relaxing and unique. The sea is almost always calm because of the position sheltered by the promontories on the sides, it is crystal clear and clean. It is equipped with sun beds, umbrellas and a beach bar for something to drink or eat. The up reaches from Skala following the road until you get to the indication for the beach.

Diakofti Beach

Diakofti Beach in Patmos is located in the south part of the island. A picturesque bay right in front of the tiny village. Secluded and very quiet, it is made of coarse sand mixed with stones with a turquoise and transparent sea. The landscape is so wild and you will feel like you are truly out of this world. Obviously it is not equipped almost like all the Patmos beaches , here is the reason why it is still so wild and intact, but on the extreme point where the path begins to reach the Psili Ammos Beach, a tavern where you can taste delicious mezedes (appetizers in Greek ) based on very fresh fish. Getting to Diakofti is very simple, from Skala or Chora follow the road signs. A part of the coast is surrounded by rocks, an ideal place for snorkelers.
