Grikos Beach, we find it in the southern part on the east side of the wonderful Patmos Island about five kilometers from the port and the town of Skala.Grikos was born as a simple fishing village, overlooking a beautiful bay that at times almost looks like a natural swimming pool given its position that shelters it for the most part from the winds that usually love to caress the Greek Islands.
The country in recent years is booming, so much so that many luxury accommodations have sprung up directly on the water’s edge and is very popular for its taverns where you can eat very well at fairly fair prices. Several bars, cafes, a few shops and small restaurants offering classic Greek and local cuisine, some revisited in a modern key, are an added value to this small village that every year becomes more and more sought after for a holiday in Patmos for the beauty of its sea and for the peaceful atmosphere that you can breathe.
The coastline of large dimensions in length, has small clear flat stones, clean, crystalline and calm waters, a blue sea typical and unique of the Aegean Sea, bottoms that descend slowly for the first meters and then become bottoms, therefore perfect for lovers of long and regenerating swims. Much of the beach is completely free and behind you can find tamarisk trees a real blessing during the hottest hours to shelter from the sun. You can therefore take a nice walk to find the corner you like best, spread out your towel and enjoy hours of relaxation. For water sports lovers you will find some proposals to have fun with your family or to challenge old and new friends.
The Grikos beach is very popular especially by locals who love to indulge either a whole day or a few hours in this part of Patmos because it is calm and without too much confusion. Apart from the high season when the island is overrun with tourists, Grikos beach is a true oasis of peace where the only sound is that of the sea
.It will not be difficult to see beautiful boats moored in the Gulf of Grikos, it is a perfect inlet to drop anchor and enjoy a wonderful view especially when the sunsets.
The continuation of Grikos beach is Petra beach with its scenic Kalikalstou islet visible from the village and from the coastal symbol of the area. Due to its conformation and its waters, the bay is considered by the World Organization to be one of the most beautiful bays in the world.
Regardless of where you will be staying, keeping the Skala village as a reference point with the port in front of you, go right following the main road parallel to the coast.
If you have a scooter or a car for hire, it will take a maximum of ten minutes and we guarantee that the landscape is something fantastic.
If there is a full moon then stop at one of the panoramic benches…If, on the other hand, you are not independent, there is a public bus service that goes from the major seaside resorts to Grikos with several trips a day.
Also in this case we advise you to take the timetables in order to better organize your day.We really like to do at least a few hours at Grikos beach every time we go to Patmos, then we stop in some tavern and relax watching the magical Aegean. Put it on your list of things to do in Patmos, you won’t regret it guaranteed!
