Welcome to Cyprus island, the largest in the eastern Mediterranean. It is located south of Turkey and very close to the Middle East, absorbing numerous influences in terms of traditions and other aspects. Cyprus is a magical island, a true gem that will capture your heart with its rich history, varied landscapes, and the kindness of its inhabitants. Thanks to its geographical location, Cyprus can be visited for at least ten months a year, with pleasant temperatures that allow for vacations or long weekends even late into autumn. It is the only island still divided in two between Greece and Turkey, with the Green Line marking the boundaries of the two nations.
Reaching the island is very easy. If you want to know more, check out our guide on how to get to Cyprus, where you’ll find all the information you need to plan your vacation.
Cyprus, with its 9250 square kilometers, is full of stunning contrasts. Starting from the mountain ranges of Kyrenia in the north and Troodos in the southwest, with the highest peak being Mount Olympus, hiding picturesque villages where time seems to have stopped, surrounded by fresh pine forests and breathtaking landscapes. In the middle lies the fertile Mesaria plain, with expanses of olive groves and citrus orchards, leading to its golden coasts that dip into crystal-clear waters. The island is home to over 1,200 different species of flowers and is one of the main migratory routes for many birds, considered a crossroads between Europe, Asia, and Africa.
A place of legends and myths, it is said that the goddess Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, was born here, specifically in the southern part of the island near Paphos, from the foam of the sea where Petra Tou Romiou stands, the rock that gave her life. There is an intriguing and mysterious belief surrounding this place. Don’t miss the archaeological sites in Paphos, part of the UNESCO World Heritage, with the Tombs of the Kings, a necropolis dating back to the 3rd century BC, and the mosaics dedicated to the god Dionysus in luxurious Roman villas from the 2nd century AD. Also worth mentioning is Famagusta, the most important fortress in the Mediterranean, which houses Othello’s Castle, where Shakespeare found inspiration for the beautiful yet tragic story of the commander who, consumed by jealousy, killed his wife and then took his own life. Another must-see is Salamis and the archaeological park, where you can visit the large Basilica of Agios Epiphanios.
Cyprus beaches can truly be described as a paradise. With turquoise waters of incredible clarity and well-equipped beaches like Nissi Beach or tranquil bays like Fig Tree Bay, there’s a beach to satisfy every need. For the more adventurous, the Akamas Peninsula offers wild coastlines immersed in nearly untouched nature.

Relax on the beach, indulge in water sports like windsurfing, or explore the seabed while snorkeling to discover the vibrant marine life. Unwind in the natural thermal baths in Akamas or enjoy wine tasting at one of the small wineries in Cyprus. For families with children, there are several theme parks where little ones can have endless fun.
A cuisine influenced by the nearby Middle East, with dishes rich in flavors and spices that evoke the atmosphere of the Arabian Nights. Don’t miss the delicious mezes, a variety of small dishes of both land and sea, which will win you over from the first bite, taking you on a true journey into the island’s spirit.

If you want to visit the beautiful and fascinating Turkish part, you will need a valid passport. There are seven crossing points from Nicosia: Ledra Palace Hotel and Ledra Street for pedestrians. If you want to go by car or another vehicle, you’ll need to use the crossings at Agios Nikolaos, Limnitis Yesilirmak, Agios Dometios, and Zodhia. Note that you can enter by car rented in the Greek part, but you will need to purchase additional insurance, and keep in mind that getting support in case of an accident might be difficult. If you rent a car in the Turkish part, you cannot cross into the Greek side.
An alternative is to hire a transfer service, which is more expensive but ensures safety and avoids delays at the checkpoints.
It can be difficult to decide where to stay. If you’re young and looking for nightlife and excitement, Agia Napa is the place to be, perhaps at an apartment like Evabelle Napa Hotel Apartments. However, in Cyprus, all-inclusive options are often more convenient, as the services are top-notch. For something luxurious, Amathus Beach Hotel in Limassol, located on the southern coast, is perfect, with an excellent spa. Elysia Park in Paphos, also in the south, is another great choice, offering options for breakfast only, half-board, or all-inclusive packages.
