And here we are at a small pearl of the Cyclades Islands, the island of Kimolos. We find it to the north of its larger sister, the island of Milos, which is decidedly better known and visited by tourism.

A secret treasure chest that few know about and that especially few venture into since reaching it is not so convenient as it is not direct. Given its size it cannot contain more than a certain number of visitors and the consequence is that it is still uncontaminated and never overcrowded. It must be said that if Kimolos is your choice for your holiday in Greece, it is advisable to book well in advance as availability is very limited and above all because its visitors are mostly people who come back every year.

However, if you are unable to find accommodation, you can still go and visit it with a daily excursion from Milos, precisely from Pollonia every day at regular intervals, the famous "Pantofla" leaves where you can also take your car or scooter.

With an extension of 35 square kilometers it is famous for its disarming hospitality, here its inhabitants are always willing to give you information and help you in case of difficulty. With volcanic origins, it presents a mountainous area full of natural quarries, caves where pirates once took refuge, chalk mines (white reigns supreme in Kimolos) and beautiful beaches bathed in transparent, crystalline waters with changing colors of blue .

You choose Kimolos for a holiday in Greece to spend quiet and totally relaxing days where the only sounds are those of the sea, cicadas and roosters. If you think of coming here and finding nightlife or extreme entertainment, forget it, Kimolos is only for connoisseurs with an atmosphere of old Greek films where traditions are passed down from generation to generation and where nature is the undisputed queen.

The only village present is Chorio, the capital and where the port that connects it to Milos and also to other islands is located. In the classic Cycladic style with its labyrinthine mazes, low, whitewashed houses with blue windows adorned with colorful bougainvillea, it is the heart of the island. All the activities and comforts if we can call them that are concentrated here. It is located at the foot of a hill in the south-east where most of its inhabitants live. The village was built around the ancient Venetian castle dating back to the 16th century and is separated into two areas. Messa Kastro (castle=Kastro messa=inside) and Eco Kastro (Exo=outside). For a moment of ancient culture, a beautiful church which preserves a wonderful collection of icons.

As on the island of Milos, there are the characteristic Syrmata, constructions dug into the rocks with colored doors that served as shelter for fishing boats. Each door has a different color and this peculiarity was created to be able to identify the property of one family rather than another.

It should be underlined that being an island it is sometimes windswept, the western part is the most exposed and on this side you can observe a curious natural sculpture called Skiadi, a rock composition of a different nature with a mushroom shape, shaped by events atmospheric.

The north-east area, on the other hand, is more sheltered from the gusts and therefore perfect for sunbathing and swimming, examples are the beach of Agios Georgios with its soft sandy beach or the beach of Prassa with its more ' Caribbean. To the south east, other unmissable coasts such as Aliki beach, ideal for snorkelling enthusiasts, or Bonastsa beach with extremely clean, turquoise waters.

A small island waiting to be discovered that will enchant its visitors and where you can spend a peaceful holiday based on intact nature, a wonderful sea and disarming simplicity.
