Prassa Beach Kimolos

2 minutes to read

Perhaps the most famous and incredible beach of Kimolos, we are talking about the Prassa beach which is located in the north east of the island in the beautiful bay of Agios Georgios just in front of the Prasonissi Islet.

As you know, Kimolos is of volcanic origin like all the Aegean islands, therefore rich in perlite, an inert substance that derives from obsidian of the gypsum family. This is why the color reminiscent of Caribbean shores with its pure white coastline. A very long beach of immaculate sand, bathed by waters with reflections ranging from emerald to turquoise, clear, crystalline so as to look like a natural swimming pool and with a shallow bottom up to several meters from the shore where families with children can play safely their little ones while adults can enjoy this wonderful scenery.

Sheltered thanks to the promontory of Agios Georgios that spares it from the north winds, at the end it has rocky layers with small caves, paradise for snorkelers and where the monk seals come to reproduce in the autumn period. Behind a Mediterranean scrub vegetation that picturesque tamarisk trees shaped by atmospheric events that give natural shade during the hottest hours. A rough and wild landscape where nature is still intact and original.

In the small Prasonissi islet, on the other hand, many species of fish and corals gather, a real playground to explore with fins, mask and an underwater camera to immortalize the encounters with the marine world.

It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, while for something cool to drink or something quick to eat a small truck-kiosk. Prassa beach besides being wonderful, is also very quiet (obviously not during the peak season when everyone flocks to sunbathe) ideal for those who want peace and relaxation.

How to get to the Prassa Beach

Being in the northern part of Kimolos quite wild and where the roads are often unpaved to get to the coasts, it would be better to have a 4x4 type car as the initial part that leads to the Prassa beach is asphalted and then presents deep holes and stones very dangerous for the normal cars and scooters. Always remember to inquire with the renter what the insurance covers so as not to incur extra costs. A valid alternative if you are not autonomous is a taxi boat that you can find in Pshati or a classic taxi. And even if you are a walker you can also do it on foot, from the port it takes about an hour.

In this case, the stop is mandatory, you must necessarily put it in the itinerary of things to see in Kimolos, a beach like this is not very easily found in the Greek archipelago, it would be a real crime not to visit it.
