The most beautiful beaches in the Cyclades

The Cyclades Archipelagos Islands is undoubtedly the best known and most sought after for a holiday in Greece.

Their beauty is undoubtedly indisputable, the nature, the sea and the atmosphere that you breathe here is only here although let’s face it where to find a bad place in Greece, almost impossible! It is also true that the Cyclades have now become very expensive and not really within everyone’s reach, on the one hand it’s better, a natural selection of customers is carried out on the other, but it’s a shame because those who are truly travelers and love to discover Greece come penalized for an economic issue.

The standards are very high, the price-service quality is excellent, the Cyclades are elegant, glamorous and all these characteristics are paid for and we also add handsomely. Despite everything, however, they remain destinations that are always requested and coveted by everyone and when we think of Greece the first images that come to our thoughts are the white houses with blue doors and windows, a typical identifying sign of this archipelago.

Today we want to give you an outline of the most beautiful beaches of the Cyclades Islands to pique your curiosity and perhaps help you in choosing for your holidays in Greece 2024.

Milos Sarakiniko Beach

Without a shadow of a doubt one of the most photographed on the island and present in many postcards representing Greece. So let’s start by saying that many do not consider it a beach as there is practically zero sand or beach, however it is considered as such. Blinding white kaolin rocks of volcanic origin shaped by the wind and sea which give an almost lunar landscape. The waters surrounding it are an intense blue that contrasts with the white that surrounds them. At night it becomes enchanted when the moon and stars illuminate it and make it even more beautiful. Among the rocks is a patch of beach that fills up in no time, while the cavities formed by the lava flow are a natural playground for snorkelling lovers. Obviously it is not equipped but you will find a small kiosk for food and drinks above the car park before getting off. The most beautiful time to admire Sarakiniko beach is early in the morning or when there is a full moon.

Kimolos Prassa Beach

Prassa beach is wedged between the Prasonisi islet and the Agios Georgios Bay. It has an almost Caribbean atmosphere thanks to its light blue, clean and crystalline waters with a coastline of soft white perlite sand. Immaculate with seabeds that slope very gently, therefore ideal for the little ones, it is equipped with a few sunbeds and umbrellas. For something to eat and drink a small kiosk. On the sides where the promontory is located, the rock formations hide small caves to be explored and perfect for snorkeling. Behind Prassa beach there is a rich vegetation of Mediterranean scrub and tamarisk where you can find shelter during the hottest hours. Everything is still intact and uncontaminated, but if you want more excitement, go to the Prasonisi island and enjoy observing its corals and rich marine fauna and flora.

Sifnos Kamares Beach

It is located in the largest village on the Sifnos island and it is a long beach of soft yellow sand with shades of gold, bright blue waters with shallow depths perfect for families with children. The landscape and natural panoramas that surround it make it unique and with an almost surreal peace. The wind is almost never felt here and for this reason alone it is a paradise. It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas while the village behind offers various opportunities for local taverns or bars for something quick to eat. Every year it is awarded the Blue Flag for its perfect cleanliness and excellent organization which makes it very comfortable and safe.

Serifos Psili Ammos Beach

We find it in the northern part of the Serifos island about eight kilometers from the Livadi port in a splendid bay surrounded by high hills. Its name means soft sand, in fact the long coastline looks exactly like this and is lapped by crystal clear waters with shallow water. Tamarisk trees surround it which provide shelter from the sun and where you can enjoy a regenerating nap during the day. It is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe and it is possible to reach it either on foot with a walk of about an hour, or by motorbike but remember that the road is a dirt road so be careful or with a water taxi. Unfortunately, Psili Ammos beach is windy especially in the evening and waves form where kite enthusiasts love to gather. It is not particularly equipped, some taverns on the beach offer sunbeds and umbrellas, the alternative is to bring your own towel and perhaps sit under the shade of a tamarisk tree. The northernmost part is much appreciated by naturists and, given the presence of small rocky caves, also by those who dedicate themselves to snorkelling.

Kea Pisses Beach

Pisses beach in Kea has everything you need for a wonderful day at the beach. It is located about twelve kilometers from the capital where, among other things, there is the only campsite on the island. A sandy coast, transparent and clear waters, a seabed that slopes gently and a sea with a thousand shades of blue. Behind it is a fertile valley and more cypresses and pines that reach down to the beach where you can take shelter when the sun is high and suffocating. It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, there is a minimarket if you are a do-it-yourself lover, typical taverns where you can sit and taste typical traditional dishes while contemplating the sea, and if you want maximum relaxation, you can also stay directly on the beach in how many apartments are there. It is usually not ventilated, but when Eolo decides to make itself heard it is a magnet for sailing and surfing lovers. If you want a break from the sea, there are paths that lead to stunning views, interesting monasteries and ancient ruins. Getting there is very convenient, an easy and asphalted road goes right up to Pisses. If you are in Kea in the first ten days of August, don’t miss the celebration of the Transfiguration of Christ.

Antiparos Agios Georgios beach

In the village of the same name southwest of the Antiparos island, we find the Agios Georgios beach. A strip of sand mixed with pebbles, an emerald green sea, crystal clear and transparent waters, all within a beautiful bay that shelters it sufficiently from the winds. It overlooks the uninhabited of Despotiko islet which can be visited with a nice boat trip where you can also admire an ancient sanctuary. The landscape surrounding the Agios Georgios area is very fascinating, a succession of small beaches separated by rocks, but still wild. It is not equipped, remember to bring everything you need if you decide to spend the whole day there. In the village you will find a wide choice of taverns or bars where you can eat or drink something.

Syros Kini Beach

Kini beach is about halfway up the Syros island in the western part. It also has its own village of the same name and is about ten kilometers from Ermoupolis, the capital. A beach of light sand mixed with small pebbles, clear waters and a sea with blue shades. The seabed descends slowly, in fact it is very popular with families with children. It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas while as far as catering is concerned, behind it you will have the choice between taverns, restaurants or bars for something quick and light. Here there is said to be the freshest fish on the whole island. It also offers various accommodation opportunities and finally one of the most beautiful sunsets to see in Syros.

Koufounissi Pori Beach

Pori beach is located in Pano Koufoinisia about four kilometers from Chora. In the shape of a crescent, it has a large coastline of fine light sand, an intense turquoise sea, clear and very clean waters, shallow waters suitable even for the little ones, in short, a real paradise. Its position shelters it from the winds that blow from the south and west, while when it comes from the north, the sea becomes agitated and becomes the domain of windsurfing and kite lovers. The rock formations that surround it make it suitable for those who like snorkelling and discovering marine fauna and flora. Given its size you will almost never find it packed and you can enjoy tranquility and relaxation. It is not equipped so remember to bring an umbrella and towel. As for the gastronomic offer, there are two taverns that offer classic Greek cuisine and also something international and fast. It is also much appreciated by lovers of naturism. It can be reached either by your own vehicle, by taxi, by bus, by sea or if you like walking even on foot and this last way will give you the opportunity to see landscapes that you will hardly forget.

Tinos Livada Beach

Hidden in a small bay south-east of the Tinos island, Livada beach offers its visitors a coastline of sand mixed with pebbles, transparent and turquoise waters with a seabed that drops steeply and therefore not suitable for little ones. On its sides, strange rocks shaped by atmospheric events that look like works of art, large stone marbles that give the environment a fairytale atmosphere. Behind there are providential tamarisk trees where you can take shelter during the hottest hours. Its position does not protect it from the winds (remember that Tinos is a fairly windy island and is said to be the home of Aeolus) so check the weather forecast before going there especially because the road that connects it is not exactly the best. When the God of the wind is appeased, there remains a small oasis of relaxation and a place to isolate oneself with a side of wild and still primordial nature. An oak forest, a small lake and a river that flows into the Aegean are located behind the beach where you can meet cute turtles, wild ducks and different species of birds. Livada beach is obviously not equipped so bring everything you need. However, in the summer there is a classic Greek tavern where you can eat something or find a drink.

Sikinos Beach in Malta

Malta beach is located in the north-eastern part of Sikinos. Its name most likely derives from the fact that this area was much sought after and beaten by Maltese pirates who reached here in the pirate period. A small crescent-shaped bay with rock formations on the sides that create secret caves, a beach of coarse light sand mixed with white stones, clear and blue waters, a sandy seabed that descends quite quickly and a nature that is still intact and uncontaminated, this is what you will find to the Malta beach. Perfect and loved by naturists and for those who want a total relaxation day with only the sound of the sea and the wind. There is no trace of trees on the coast you will be completely exposed to the sun all day and obviously as it is not equipped we advise you to bring everything to protect yourself from the heat. Even to drink or eat there is nothing so fill your backpack with food and drinks if you decide to spend the whole day or a few hours. It can be reached either by sea starting from Alopronoi or on foot along a path. Above the Malta beach, ancient ruins can be observed.

Kythnos Kolona Beach

Kolona beach is located in its beautiful bay of the same name north-west of the Kythnos island, about three kilometers from Chora and north of the Merichas port, opposite another wonderful beach, Apokrousi beach. Unique in its kind for its geomorphology, it is a narrow strip of sand 240 meters long which connects it to the rocky of San Luca islet and is bathed on both sides. The coastline features coarse gravel with a golden colour, crystal clear blue waters and is surrounded by gentle slopes with a lunar landscape. It is not equipped so bring everything you need to protect yourself from the sun as the vegetation is also very sparse, there are only two large trees that provide shade and as always it is first come, first served. For something to eat or drink, however, there is a typical tavern open only in summer and during the day where you can find classic Greek cuisine and refreshing drinks. Perfect for swimming and relaxing as its location protects it from the winds, attracting numerous boats to dock and enjoy the spectacle that Mother Nature has created. The most convenient and fastest way to reach it is by sea, while if you love trekking, you can take a delightful walk of at least an hour. The car can also be an option, a 4×4 is better as the road is dirt and demanding.

Amorgos Agia Anna Beach

And here we are at Agia Anna beach in Amorgos. Famous for being the filming location of the cult film The Big Blue by Luc Besson, we find it to the east very close to the Chora and the Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa. Wild and indomitable, it offers a small pebble beach with extraordinarily clean waters and a deep blue sea. The seabed drops immediately so if you have children, be very careful. Behind it are cliffs of rocks shaped by atmospheric events. It is not served, so bring everything you need to stay comfortable in case you want to spend the whole day there, especially to shelter from the sun as there isn’t even a classic tree where you can find refuge during the hottest hours. We recommend rock shoes as both the coast and the seabed are only pebbles. At the car park you will find a small bar where you can get something to eat and drink. Being very well known, it tends to fill up quickly so it would be better to go early in the morning rather than late in the afternoon to be able to enjoy the beach in absolute peace. Snorkeling enthusiasts will have a lot of fun here thanks to the many cavities under the rocks where marine fauna and flora love to hide. If you want more privacy, just follow one of the paths and with a little effort, sometimes even climbing, you will find some coves away from prying eyes such as Sirma beach, Kambi beach or the Grand Viokastra islet, a favorite place for naturists. Agia Anna beach can be easily reached either with your own vehicle or with the local buses which leave from Chora and Katapola every day.

Paros Kolymbithres Beach

The famous and particular Kolymbithres beach is located in the Plastira Bay in the north-west of the Paros island. Its fortunate position constantly shelters it from the wind and for this reason it is practically overrun by tourists during the summer period. Its distinctive note are the white granite blocks that line the coast, true works of art of Nature which continuously shape them with the wind and salt, changing their shape. It offers visitors a coastline of soft light sand, a sea with many shades of blue, shallow and sandy seabed perfect for the little ones and clear, clear waters. Its name translated means pools and is due to the fact that the rock formations form small basins of water. It is well equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, beaches and taverns if you want a complete meal with your little legs under the table, while those who want absolute peace and complete privacy just need to walk along the coast where there are small hidden coves but as always being very popular if you want to be alone it would be better to go there early in the morning to get your own private space. There are many water sports to do together with friends or family such as water skiing, surfing or hydro cycling, very popular in recent years. Snorkeling enthusiasts will be able to discover the lively underwater life among the reefs. It can be reached very easily either with your own vehicle or by sea with a nice excursion, and again with a water taxi, with a bus and finally with a nice three kilometer walk along a coastal path from Naoussa.

Naxos Agios Prokopios beach

Agios Prokopios beach in Naxos is located in the north east, more or less six kilometers from the Chora. Given its beauty and the care that the island dedicates to it, every year it is awarded the Blue Flag making it one of the most beautiful and famous in Greece. One and a half kilometers long, it has a beach of coarse golden sand, a sparkling blue and turquoise sea, transparent and clean waters with a gently sloping seabed perfect for those who love swimming. Its position almost always shelters it from the wind, making it look like a real natural swimming pool. Gentle dunes surround it and behind it the village of the same name which offers everything and more. To the north of the Agios Prokopios beachare the remains of an ancient salt pan which has now become a small lake called Kokkini Limni (kokkini is red in Greek) due to the color of its waters. It is very well equipped, sunbeds, umbrellas, beach bars, taverns and many games for the family and for those who want to keep fit even on holiday. For those who love do-it-yourself, a southern part is free, you can choose the corner that most inspires you, spread out your towel and enjoy a wonderful day at the beach. You can get there easily either with your own vehicle or with public buses.

Mykonos Kalafatis Beach

Kalaftis beach is on the east of Mykonos island near Tarsana beach about a couple of kilometers from the picturesque Ano Mera village. Also always awarded the Blue Flag for its natural beauty, it has a coastline of coarse-grained white sand and a sea that fades from blue to turquoise. The seabed for the first few meters is rocky but it only takes a few steps to find the sand. It is one of the largest on the island and undoubtedly the favorite of sportsmen as its position does not protect it from the wind, thus attracting all sports lovers where Eolo is the protagonist. Unlike many others in Mykonos, there is very little nightlife here, everything is always quiet, in fact it is chosen above all by families with children and by those who want to relax. In the center it is free and dotted with tamarisk trees that provide shade during the day, while at the ends it is well organized with sunbeds, umbrellas and beach bars. A peculiarity of Kalafatis beach is the view of the Dragnonisi island, the islet in the shape of a sleeping dragon. To get there you can do it either with a rental vehicle or with a regular bus.

Folegandros Agios Nikolaos Beach

Agios Nikolaos beach is located south of the Folegandros island. A beautiful beach of sand mixed with pebbles, a sea of changing colours, transparent and clear waters and a seabed on one side that is rocky and also a little slippery so be careful and perhaps wear some rock shoes, while on the other it is sandy. Behind providential tamarisk trees where you can find comfort when the sun is at its maximum and why not take a nice nap. To the left of the beach is the immaculately white chapel of Agios Nikolaos (which gives it its name) which offers a wonderful view of the small inlet. It is not equipped, no sunbeds or umbrellas, it is completely free and among other things much appreciated by lovers of naturism. On the sides there are rock formations where you can have fun snorkelling and discover the underwater world. On the other hand, regarding food and drinks you can choose between two taverns, one right on the beach, the other a bit higher up but with a spectacular view. Agios Nikolaos beach is perfect for a day at the beach where you can relax and enjoy nature. Reaching it is not difficult, definitely the quickest and most comfortable way is by sea, from Agali it takes about five minutes. Another alternative is on foot with a walk of about twenty minutes, the path starts on the right of Agali beach which however is completely under the sun so in addition to comfortable shoes, remember water and a hat. If you are an expert walker, there is another route that starts from Eleimonas and Ano Meria, it takes about forty minutes.

Andros Vitali Beach

About fifteen minutes from Gavrio north east of the Andros island, we find Vitali beach. A coastline of small stones bathed by a multicolored turquoise sea, clear waters and a seabed that drops immediately so pay attention to the little ones. Here the water is much warmer than other beaches and therefore pleasant. Its position always shelters it from the winds thanks also to the rock formations that surround it and which become an excellent point for snorkelling lovers where they can search for and admire the lively marine fauna and flora. It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas while for eating and or drinking something there is a bar for something quick and light or a tavern with a splendid view of the bay. Ideal for a relaxing day as it is never crowded given the effort required to reach it but offers still intact nature. And here’s the painful part, how to get there. First of all, if you decide to be comfortable and get there by car, it is essential to have an off-road vehicle as the road after Agios Petros becomes dirt and difficult. For those who love walking, there is a beautiful path that crosses the mountain with idyllic views and continues for another three kilometers before arriving in Paradise.

Santorini Kokkini Beach

Kokkini Beach also called Red Beach in Santorini, is located in the south west not far from the archaeological site of Akrotiri. Surely from the name you will have already understood why, the beach is made up of small garnet and black stones of volcanic origins which give this particular color. Small and narrow, it is bathed by clear turquoise waters with a seabed that slopes away immediately. Behind it is surrounded by scenic red cliffs that are constantly changing thanks to the atmospheric events that shape them, constantly changing their shape. It’s always very crowded so if you want to enjoy it in peace it would be better to go early in the morning. Being closed in a bay it is well protected from the wind and perfect for snorkelling thanks to the rocky seabed where the marine inhabitants love to hide. It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, not many in reality, while for food and drinks you will find several kiosks. To reach it you either have your own vehicle or with a bus, you arrive at a certain point and then you have to walk for about ten minutes on a steep, dirt path, we therefore recommend comfortable shoes and not flip-flops.

Ios Manganari Beach

Manganari beach, one of the most beautiful in Ios and for some also in Greece, is located in the south of the island. A haven of peace, a corner where tranquility dominates, perfect for families with children and for those who don’t want nightlife or loud music. Given its position in the bay, it is almost always sheltered from the wind and offers various points where you can enjoy a wonderful day at the beach. A long strip of coarse sand washed by a turquoise and blue sea with warm, transparent waters and a seabed that slopes gently. The underwater world is very interesting so snorkelers don’t forget fins, snorkel, mask and underwater camera. It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, you can have fun in water sports and beyond its soft dunes you will find a choice of typical taverns where you can taste succulent fresh fish dishes. Part of Manganari beach is free so even in this case you can find your own little corner and enjoy the sea. Being a little far from the Chora, let’s say that despite its beauty and its comforts it is never too crowded and for this reason it has probably managed to still maintain its wild and untouched atmosphere. It is possible to reach it with your own transport, by sea from the port of Ormos with an organized excursion or with a public bus.
