And here we are at a small pearl of the Cyclades Islands, the island of Kimolos. We find it north of its larger sister, the island of Milos, which is definitely more well known and visited by tourists.
A secret treasure chest that few know about and that few especially venture to since reaching it is not so convenient as it is not direct. Given its size it cannot contain more than a certain number of visitors and the consequence is that it is still uncontaminated and never overcrowded. It must be said that if Kimolos is your choice for your holiday in Greece, it is advisable to book well in advance as availability is very limited and above all because its visitors are mostly people who return every year.
However, if you can’t find accommodation, you can still go and visit it with a day trip from Milos, precisely from Pollonia every day at regular intervals, the famous “Pantofla” leaves where you can also embark your car or scooter.
It is famous for its disarming hospitality, its inhabitants are always willing to give you information and help you in case of difficulty. From volcanic origins, it presents itself with a mountainous territory rich in natural quarries, caves where pirates once took refuge, gypsum mines (white is the master in Kimolos) and beautiful beaches bathed by transparent and crystalline waters with iridescent colors of blue.
Kimolos is chosen for a holiday in Greece to spend quiet days in total relaxation where the only sounds are those of the sea, cicadas and roosters. If you think you are coming here and looking for nightlife or extreme entertainment, forget it, Kimolos is only for connoisseurs with an atmosphere of old Greek films where traditions are passed down from generation to generation and where nature is the undisputed queen.
It should be noted that being an island it is sometimes beaten by the wind, the western part is the most exposed and on this side you can observe a curious natural sculpture called Skiadi a composition of rock of different nature with a mushroom shape, modeled by atmospheric events.
The north east area is instead more sheltered from the gusts and therefore perfect for sunbathing and swimming, examples of this are Agios Georgios beach with its soft sand or Prassa Beach with a more Caribbean atmosphere. To the south east other unmissable coasts such as Aliki beach ideal for snorkeling enthusiasts or Bonastsa beach with extremely clean and turquoise waters.
A small island to be discovered that will enchant its visitors and where you can spend a quiet holiday based on unspoiled nature, beautiful sea and disarming simplicity.
