And here we are at Alberto’s favorite beach in Patmos, Vagia beach. As perhaps we have already repeated to you to the point of boredom but allow us we love Greece and in particular Patmos, this island is for us the beginning of our whole adventure in the Greek Islands. It is the place where we would like to live our old age in the middle of nowhere and in a still intact and uncontaminated nature and where we have developed the crazy idea of turning our life around by revolutionizing our path. Ok it’s true we live in Kos but for the simple reason that in Patmos the summer season is very short so, either you are rich and you can afford to do nothing or you have to choose an island where you have the opportunity to work a few more months’ for to survive.
The beautiful and wild Vagia beach, we find it in the north east part of Patmos about six and a half kilometers from Skala.
A wonderful bay in the shape of a horse with a coastline of small pebbles and a bit of sand surrounded by some large trees that give shade in the hottest hours of the day (remember that there are very few more or less three so who first arrives better lodges), transparent, crystalline and a little cold waters but as in the whole island on the other hand, a sea of intense blue, a color that we found only in the majestic Aegean with a seabed that drops immediately so if you have small children have an eye more.
The beauty and peculiarity of Vagia beach lies in the fact that it is really wild, no kind of comfort, no sunbeds or umbrellas, no taverns or beach bars, all in the wild, certainly perfect for those who love DIY and want stay in close contact with nature. If during your holiday in Patmos you decide to spend the whole day there, which is more than likely once you have seen the beach, we recommend that you bring everything you need, from water or something to drink, to food unless you feel like taking the vehicle and go either to the Vagia Cafè which is located about three hundred meters above the beach where, however, we advise you to drop by, they have mouth-watering sweets (taste the chocolate mousse) even if you do not have them, or head towards Kambos where there are delicious taverns offering classic Greek and local cuisine all comfortably seated with your feet in the sand.
You will have various possibilities to reach Vagia beach. First of all head north east following the signs for the Gulf of Kambos. From here follow the road that goes up and after about five hundred meters turn right and in a few minutes you will arrive above the beach and from there then go down towards the sea, travel time one minute.
The most convenient way to reach Vagia beach is undoubtedly with a rental vehicle, it makes no difference whether it is a car or a motorbike, you can leave them on the road above the coast. If you are not autonomous, you can opt for the public bus that stops in Kambos and from there continue on foot for about a kilometer.
Third alternative by sea. From Skala you can rent a small boat unless you are among the lucky ones to have your own and reach the beach of Vagia perhaps taking advantage of visiting all the other fantastic coves that are found on this side.
A quiet, peaceful beach (not so much in the high season, it must be clear), with a view as far as the eye can see on the Aegean where you can spend an idle day at sea and not think about anything with the awareness of being lucky to be able to enjoy of a small natural paradise that must remain so.
