The small and hidden Tzamaria Beach, we find it in the northwestern part of the “always awake” island of Ios about four kilometers from the fascinating capital Chora. It is one of the least known, wedged between Gialos beach and Koumbara beach but with its own specific identity.
A small cove right in front of the port so that it will not be difficult for you to see the ferries that go back and forth to the Greek Islands, with a small shoreline of sand mixed with pebbles, clear, transparent and a little cold waters, an intense blue sea and a gently sloping seabed partly sandy but with the presence of rocks therefore, not very suitable for swimming and for families with small children.
On the contrary, it is very popular for snorkelling and diving enthusiasts who will be able to observe many different species of fish and perhaps with a beautiful immortal underwater camera the inhabitants of the abyss. Given its position and the rock formations on both sides, it is perhaps one of the very few beaches on the Ios Island to always be sheltered from the wind, here Aeolus fails to arrive and consequently becomes the perfect destination for a beautiful day of relaxing sea in the company of a good book.
It is not equipped at all, here you can forget the comforts such as sun loungers and umbrellas, only your towel placed where you like most is the maximum luxury you can afford. Also with regard to catering or go to the tavern more or less close to the beach with a wonderful view of the gulf where you can satisfy your taste buds with traditional Greek or local dishes, or you can bring everything you need to not move every time you have thirst or that your stomach will feel empty.
Obviously there is no natural shade, so bring a hat otherwise bring your parasol if you want respite from the hot Hellenic sun rays and as always we recommend lots of sunscreen to avoid getting burned and ruining your stay on the island for a few days in the best of cases.
If you have decided for your holiday in Ios to stay in the Chora or in the immediate surroundings, the best solution is to get there with a nice walk that, depending on your pace, can last from ten to twenty minutes. Another solution is with a rental car or scooter but even in this case you will have to leave your vehicle first and then go down a path from the main road.
Certainly the Tzamaria beach is not among the most beautiful on the island, but it remains a guarantee when the Meltemi blows strongly disturbing the quiet expected when on vacation and a good alternative for a day full of relaxation and silence.
If you want something different, put it as a reserve in the list of things to do in Ios maybe then you will discover that it is much better than many other super famous beaches but always very crowded and above all noisy.
