Twin Beaches Patmos

The Twin beaches called Didimes beach in Greek language and also Liginou beaches, we find them in the northwestern part of the mystical Patmos Island. Chora the capital is less than twelve kilometers southbound.

In our opinion among the most beautiful, where wild, uncontaminated nature and a wonderful sea are a celestial combination to say the least. They are called “twins” because they are symmetrical with each other and separated by a huge boulder that divides this beautiful corner of the bay in two.

Crescent-shaped, they have small coasts of fine sand mixed with small stones, clean and crystalline waters, a sea that passes from blue to decidedly cold emerald, on the other hand in all Patmos the water is cold but during the periods high season when the heat is felt it will be a real godsend. The seabed drops quite quickly so beware if you have small children. On the contrary, the area is perfect for those who love long swims and for snorkelers who can inspect and discover the fish fauna and flora.

It goes without saying that the twin beaches are completely devoid of services, apart from a couple of tamarisk trees where you can shelter during the hottest hours, the absolute nothing, but its beauty is precisely this contact with a primitive nature where the art of getting by becomes a return to origins.

If you decide to spend the whole day there and it will not be such a difficult decision to make indeed we challenge you once you reach the beach to leave, remember to bring everything you need especially water to hydrate you, something to eat and a cap in case under the trees there is no place.

It will not be difficult to find some campers on the Twin beaches, it is undoubtedly a place to pitch your own tent and enjoy so much magnificence from Mother Nature.

Just before Didimes, another gem of the Patmos Island , the Viagia Beach also rough and wild but we will talk about it in an article dedicated only to her.

If you suffer from stomach cramps and you are used to having lunch regularly, do not be afraid, on the main road (let’s say that it is the road that runs along the entire coast, the classic panoramic) about five minutes by motorbike from the twin beaches, you will find a classic “Kantina” in a nutshell, a caravan used as a kitchen where you can sit on tables and chairs sometimes recovered from old objects where Nikos the owner (we call him” so fresh “because when we met him sixteen years ago during our trip to wedding when we saw each other in the morning for coffee he always tells us that although in the evening we party until late with him and the villagers of Kampos we were always beautiful fresh) and his holy wife, offer dishes of classic Greek and local cuisine. all seasoned with fresh beers or ouzo and an overview of the inlet to make you forget any worries. Until a few years ago it was only open in July and August, to date 2021 we have no idea if it extends its opening further, but still it is worth taking a tour and if you find it open do not hesitate to stop.

How to get to the Twin Beaches

The direction is northwest. If you come from Chora or Skala, you have to reach the village of Kampos and then descend towards the Kampos Bay and then go up again along the only road you will meet and follow it until you reach Didimes.

There is a demanding descent to do with the vehicle so better to leave it on the parked road so that it does not obstruct the passage and go down on foot, we are talking about a walk of about ten minutes that you will not even hear them downhill, uphill a bit more.

For those who love walking, on the other hand, starting from the Vagia beach and following a stone path (we are talking about a quarter of an hour) you can easily get there.

It is essential to have your own vehicle that is a motorbike rather than a car as public services in Patmos really with the dropper.

An essential stop during your holiday in Patmos and absolutely to be noted among the things to see on the island.
