The Cyprus island on the Mediterranean eastern borders is a magical island in our opinion where mythological legends and the past are still very much felt.
No doubt the Goddess of Beauty and sensual love is linked to the Aphrodite myth. The Cypriot legend, tells that in this place and in these waters wrapped in a white foam (produced by Uranus when he cut off his genitals to his father Cronus and threw them into the sea thus fertilizing the sea), the Goddess was born.
Petra Tou Romiou, is a beautiful beach of large pebbles with a sea of shades ranging from blue to green with two magnificent and imposing rock stacks. It is located about 22 km east of the town of Paphos which for 600 years has been the island capital, center of the Aphrodite cult and which is part of a forest park area where trails can be reached on the hill to the west of the beach, where you can admire the wonderful panorama especially at sunset.
The mythology, however, also attributes the origins of Petra Tu Romiou also to a Greek hero Diogenes Akritos who with his boundless strength hurled enormous boulders like those found in the bay against their enemies to defeat them. It is said that the largest stack is one of the rocks thrown by Diogenes.
According to the Cypriot tradition if at midnight you will bathe under the full moon, naked, swimming around the stacks, you will gain immortality and eternal youth.
We have chosen to age with dignity and not being so daring we leave the brave company that maybe will not give what was promised, but surely it will be a “mythical” experience to remember.
