Pefkos village or Pefki both names are fine, it is located in the southeast part of the Rhodes island between the Lindos village and Lardos.
At the foot of a hill surrounded by a wonderful pine forest, (Pefkos which in Greek means Pine), with golden sandy beaches that dive gently into the crystal clear waters of the Aegean Sea, it was originally a small fishing village much loved by the Rhodes inhabitants for summer holidays. The historic center still maintains the ancient typically Greek fishermen’s houses low and whitewashed with lime, and beautiful alleys where you can get lost and breathe the classic Greece atmosphere. The first settlements also dedicated themselves to producing local products such as tomatoes, wheat, the inevitable olives and fruit which are still kept alive today.
In recent years Pefkos, has had a strong and fast economic development thus expanding the services so as to offer all the modern conveniences such as shops, hotels, hotels, resorts, restaurants and taverns always with products and fresh fish, managing however to maintain that typically Hellenic air that all visitors expect to find on their holidays in Greece. The commercial activities are mainly managed by local families and this has allowed the village to remain authentic, with the friendly taste of primary quality of the Greek people and to preserve the old traditions.
The whole area around Pefkos is however very beautiful to discover, a succession of typical seaside villages that shore the coast to the most extreme point towards the south, a luxuriant nature that gives that sense of peace and tranquility, give it the merits to be visited.
Pefkos as we mentioned before is also highly sought after for its beautiful beaches and the many opportunities for water sports such as water skiing or a simple but always pleasant ride on a pedal boat that you can do in the company of your family or friends. The beaches are all well equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas and many refreshment points to have a drink or something to eat.
All coasts have been awarded the Blue Flag every year since 2006 thanks to the clarity of the waters and the conservation of the area. The beaches that you can find in Pefkos are basically four: the Kavos beach which can also be seen from Lee beach, small with the appearance of an aquarium for its transparent, clean sea, with shallow waters and therefore perfect for families with children, Lee beach also called Main Beach as it is the main one in the area, quite crowded at peak times with soft sand and very well equipped, Saint Thomas beach, a small sandy cove sheltered from the winds to the west compared to the Lee beach where fishermen moor their boats, extremely quiet and suitable for lovers of relaxation and peace and finally Plakia beach which is located towards the Lardos village of small pebbles mixed with sand with a clear and crystalline sea, a real gem still not stormed by mass tourism at least not during peak periods because the road to reach it is a bit demanding.
Simple, following the main road go towards the south coast or for those who also want to explore the interior of the Rhodes island take the alternative roads, following the road signs.
A destination definitely to add to the list of things to do in Rhodes that will allow you to find hidden corners and enjoy the beautiful landscapes.
