The popular Lemonakia beach, we find it in the northwest part of the green Samos Island about twelve kilometers from the port of the charming town and capital Vathi.
Gathered in a small and picturesque bay, thanks to its position and the cliffs that surround it covered with beautiful Mediterranean scrub and trees that extend almost to the shore, shelter it from the winds and make it perfect for a quiet day at the beach. It has a coastline more or less four hundred meters long of soft light sand mixed with small white pebbles, clear and crystalline waters, a sea that fades from turquoise to sparkling blue with depths that descend slowly for the first few meters and then become deep suitable for to those who love to take long swims and to families with children.
It is mostly equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, toilets and showers, while as far as catering is concerned there is a typical tavern where you can taste the excellent dishes of the classic Greek and local cuisine based on fresh fish and produce, as well as some bars and snack bars where you can find fresh drinks and quick meals. For those who want to stay in close contact with nature, the final part of Lemonakia beach is free, so you can spread out your towel where you feel best at ease and enjoy this heavenly place in peace. Snorkelling lovers can have fun searching for fish fauna and flora along the cliffs, so don’t forget all the equipment to venture out and discover the magical underwater world. We recommend the use of rock shoes if you have delicate feet in areas where there are stones.
Less than a kilometer and a half away is the Kokkari village right in the middle of two hills, once a simple fishing village which over the years has transformed into one of the most well-stocked and sought after tourist destinations with its small shops, taverns, restaurants and of accommodation if you decide to stay here for your holiday on Samos as a base ranging from simple apartments to small and medium sized hotels.
The landscape has an almost exotic flavor, umbrella pines that extend almost next to the water, olive groves, mandarin cultures and vineyards to which the local population is still dedicated as in the past (Samos is famous for its wines). A valid alternative is a visit to the beautiful mountain villages where there are interesting ruins and where you can taste the nectars of the Samos island.
Six hundred meters away is another beach where you can take a leap to the smallest and most beautiful Tsamodou beach on Samos with a landscape that looks like Eden fallen to earth.
If you have a car or a scooter (given the size of the island of Samos and the many things to visit, we always recommend 4 wheels), wherever you have decided to stay, the direction is north-east following the main road that leads to Vathi and then road signs towards Kokkari. Once you reach the beach you will find free parking at your disposal and from there there are still a hundred meters to walk along a path.
Ifon the contrary, you don’t have your own transport, there are public bus rides from the major tourist locations and, as always, particular attention should be paid to the timetables so as to organize yourself in the best possible way.
A destination to be included among the things to see on Samos for a very pleasant interlude by the sea and a territory to be discovered that offers various opportunities to learn more about this stupendous and still little-visited Aegean island.
