Someone says that the Keri Lighthouse is the most famous place in Zakynthos, we do not know if it is actually the truth given that the whole island is beautiful and has magnificent things to visit, certainly it is one of the panoramic points where to admire the best sunset.

The Keri Lighthouse is located in the extreme southern tip of Zakynthos about twenty kilometers from the capital at Cape Marathia heading west on the edge of an arduous cliff two hundred meters above sea level and the view here is considered to be among the best in the island and around the Ionian Sea. The surrounding landscape with the white of the rocks, the green of the mountains, the blue of the sea, heart-pounding overhangs and the majestic Mitzithres that mark the beginning of the beautiful caves, make the Keri Lighthouse an enchanting place.

Built in 1925 to shed light and indicate the routes to ships passing through the Ionian Sea, on the top of a rock is the nine meter high tower which, like a sentry, watches over and controls the sea. The lighthouse cannot be reached or visited as it is fenced and closed to the public.

As we said before, the best time to admire the lighthouse and the wonderful view is at sunset when the colors of the sky and the water merge, giving shades with gradations ranging from pink, to orange to red, perfect for the souvenir photo to be framed and look into the memory of your holiday in Zakynthos. If you are lucky and the sky is particularly clear, the show will be even more beautiful. At other times of the day it is also pleasant to visit the Keri Lighthouse, but the magic is not the same as when the sun goes down.

There is a traditional tavern where you can enjoy an aperitif waiting for the light to disappear leaving room for a bright starry sky, or even stop for a lunch or a dinner based on typical Greek and Mediterranean dishes. Many visitors say that it is a bit expensive but for the view alone it is worth spending a few euros more.

In order to access the Keri Lighthouse and enjoy so much benevolence from Mother Nature, you have to passing by a private property with a small kiosk (with compulsory drink) that opens onto a large natural terrace overlooking the sea with some benches where you can relax and watch the miracle of the sun. There are also many rocks where you can sit as there are not many seats, it will also be a fantastic experience.

First of all you need to head south east and reach Capo Marathia following the road signs. Next to the small lighthouse, there is a parking lot where you can leave your vehicle and with a very short walk downhill you will arrive at your destination. Obviously, to reach the Keri Lighthouse it is necessary to have a rental car or scooter because there is no public transport that goes to here.
