The beautiful Kaminia Beach, we find it in the southernmost part of the Kefalonia Island about four kilometers from the lively town of Skala and just one kilometer from the village of Ratzakli.
Considered one of the most beautiful and longest in all of Kefalonia, it has an extensive coastline of soft light sand tending to the colors of gold, clean, transparent, calm and even warm waters since the beach is not located on the Ionian Sea side, a sea that changes from blue to turquoise with a seabed that descends very slowly, so much so that you have to travel fifty meters from the shore, creating wonderful shoals where the little ones can have fun in safety until exhaustion while adults enjoy this little corner of paradise. It is partly equipped with sun beds and umbrellas, while for something to eat or drink there is a small snack bar where you can find a refreshing drink or something quick to eat with a magnificent panoramic view of the hilly promontory.
It owes its name to the kilns that once existed in the area where the tiles were made with the particular clay that can be found on the island.
An idyllic landscape that transmits peace and tranquility, surrounded by rolling hills rich in lush Mediterranean vegetation and woods with an almost fairy atmosphere where you can take beautiful walks to discover the area.
Given its extension even in the most intense tourist periods, it is always very comfortable, you will hardly be one on top of the other, everyone has their own space to enjoy a pleasant day at the beach. The most beautiful spots where to indulge in a regenerating swim are a little distant from the equipped part, but two steps on the water’s edge are a good opportunity to get some exercise and then be rewarded with a cool swim in a spectacular sea.
However, the Kaminia beach is very popular and known as the turtles of the Caretta Caretta species, now almost endangered, nest so be very careful where you put your feet and keep the coast clean. Obviously it is part of a protected area and it can be a great opportunity especially for the little ones to witness the birth or sighting of these cute and fragile reptiles. From May to August is the period in which the eggs are deposited.
In reality, the beach of Kaminia has two coasts separated by some rocks, the second is the Munda beach with a sandy beach tending to yellow always with a splendid sea and is much loved and frequented by lovers of naturism.
It’s very simple. Keep the Skala village as a reference point and go down to the southeast. From the Ratzakli village, turn right and follow the dirt road that is easily passable, however, up to a large parking lot where you can leave your vehicle.
We always recommend being independent with your travels as Kefalonia is not a small island and many beaches are not served by public transport.
The Kaminia beach is perfect for a quiet day, here water sports, loud music there are basically not to disturb the life cycle of the turtles so to be noted among the things to see in Kefalonia for a moment of absolute relaxation and merge with the primitive surrounding nature.
