The little-known Kambia beach, we find it in the southwest part of the romantic and picturesque Santorini island, four kilometers from the village and famous archaeological site of Arkotiri. The capital Thira is thirteen kilometers to the north. The emblazoned Red Beach and White Beach can be found not far from Kambia beach which is right in the middle.
A little-known but above all uncrowded coastline, a real corner of paradise, outside the mass tourism circuit that gives hours of absolute relaxation in an uncontaminated and intact environment made of large round volcanic pebbles near the black shore, waters wonderful, transparent and crystalline, an intense turquoise sea tending to sparkling blue and a rocky seabed not exactly comfortable for entering the Aegean but reachable thanks to a platform and a pier created specifically to facilitate visitors but basically perfect for snorkelling where you will meet many sea urchins and other sea creatures. The rocks around the beach with imaginative shapes forged by the wind and the saltiness, give the environment a scenographic flavor and an almost exotic scent as well as a providential natural shade during the hottest hours of the day. Rock shoes are recommended to move more freely.
Kambia beach is partly equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas while an area is completely free and you can spread out your towel wherever you like. Remember to bring fins and masks to explore the depths rich in fauna and flora. As for catering, you will find an adorable tavern that offers dishes of classic Greek and local cuisine based on fish, seafood from local fishermen and the freshest products and you will taste dishes that you will fall in love with. If, on the other hand, you want something quick and light, a snack bar by the sea will satisfy your needs.
From Kambia beach it is possible to see the Red beach and the Akrotiri Lighthouse built in 1892 and still functioning whose light is visible at twenty four nautical miles and from where you can admire one of the most beautiful sunsets of Santorini when all takes on warm colors ranging from orange to fuchsia to capture in the perfect photo.
It’s not difficult to get there, you just have to be a little careful as the road that reaches the beach for at least a quarter of an hour is a dirt road and not very comfortable. So in summary, head south-west then following the road signs, take the path and you will be at your destination.
First of all, we must inform you that there is no public transport that reaches here, you have to be independent whether it is with a car or a scooter, it doesn’t matter, in the end you will find a public parking where you can leave your vehicle.
For lovers of walking, you can get to Kambia beach on foot with a walk of about half an hour. It can also be an excellent opportunity to visit the whole area of Akrotiri which is very interesting from a historical and landscape point of view.
A beach to be noted among the things to see in Santorini, a quiet place ideal for a moment of relaxation away from the crowds with wonderful views, a wonderful sea and excellent cuisine. Don’t forget to go there it will be a very pleasant discovery.
