Kalafati Beach Mykonos

Kalafatis beach is located in the east of the Mykonos island adjacent to Tarsana’ beach, about two kilometers from the picturesque Ano Mera village and twelve kilometers from Mykonos Town the capital.

Famous for its natural beauty that has awarded it the Blue Flag, it is a coastline five hundred fifty meters long and fifty meters wide of coarse white sand with an extremely clean, crystalline sea and a thousand shades of turquoise. The seabed has some rocks at the beginning but it is enough to move very little away to find a sandy seabed.

Considered one the largest beaches of the Mykonos island, it is par excellence the beach most loved by sportsmen because of its position, the wind is a constant and the sea is never flat. It is the preferred area for windsurfing or kitesurfing lovers, as well as for diving or crazy races with jet skis.

Certainly a beach not dedicated to nightlife, here there are no wild parties or ball music, rather we dedicate ourselves to relaxation or sport, thus making it suitable for families with children or for those who want to enjoy so much beauty in tranquility and also with some privacy given the size of the beach.

The central part of the Kalafatis beach is completely free, you can put on your towel and shelter from the sun under the tamarisk trees which are a godsend during periods when it is really hot. The ends of the Kalafatis beach, on the other hand, are very well equipped, in the western part sunbeds and umbrellas are free as long as you order something to drink or eat, in the eastern part instead the beach is managed by the only hotel present that, however, also rents to those who are not guests in the structure. The very competitive prices compared to the other Mykonos beach from this part range from € 8 to € 20 for two sunbeds and an umbrella, and there are also toilet facilities, a playground for the little ones, a restaurant with snacks and drinks that are served directly under the parasol. For fun, a water sports center such as paragliding, water skiing or banana boat.

For those who want to enjoy water sports, a windusrf school that has been present for several decades with highly qualified staff, will welcome you and introduce you to the fantastic world of surfing or a nice dive in search of the hidden treasures of the Mykonos island.

A peculiarity of the Kalafatis beach is the view on the beautiful Dragnoisi Island, a small strip of land that emerged so called because of its shape resembling a sleeping dragon. A short distance also in Divounia, perhaps the last of the fishing villages still as at its origin where to stop in a tavern to enjoy fresh seafood.

How to reach Kalafatis Beach

If you have a vehicle that is a moped or a car, you can reach it by following the road signs towards the Ano Mera village and continuing for a couple of kilometers you will reach the beach where there is also a large free parking. If you are not independent, from Mykonos Town to the old port, a bus service runs every day (see the timetable).

For a day of relaxation and privacy given the size, we recommend that you put Kalafatis beach on the list of things to see in Mykonos, it will be a quiet break on the most lively island of the Aegean.
