The green and fertile Naxos island is located in the Cyclades archipelago and is the largest by size.
Why choose a holiday in Naxos? For a coastline that reaches up to a hundred kilometers of beautiful beaches of soft golden sand with clean waters and phenomenal colors with gently sloping seabeds, so much so that it is a favorite destination for families with children, for diving, kite surfing and windsurfing enthusiasts where the wind offers stretches of coast perfect for these disciplines, for those who love trekking and walking, for those who love archaeological sites where they can fantasize and dive into the past as in the spectacular portal dedicated to the god Apollo or the temple of Dionysus up to the castle like a sentinel he watches over the city, and still to go to the discovery of the villages in the hinterland where tradition and culture are still respected and can be breathed strongly, in short, anyone can spend wonderful days on this multifaceted island that satisfies any taste.
Fourth in the "magic golden rectangle" together with Paros, Mykonos and Santorini, Naxos according to Greek mythology is where the great Zeus spent his childhood and as evidence of this in the Zas Cave with its stalactites and stalagmites today one of the excursions not to be missed. Even the goliardic God Dionysos lived on this wonderful island so as to make it his favorite place and making it fertile with immense vineyards. And finally the myth of Ariadne, daughter of the Cretan king Minos who, abandoned by Theseus right here, later became the bride of Dionysus.
An island full of legends and history as well as a breathtaking landscape and continuous surprises.
To reach Naxos you must necessarily make two stops. Like all the Greek Islands, she too offers two ways or by air and by sea.
Flight: Naxos has a small airport but it is not international, I can only get there by internal flights. First of all it will be necessary to get to Mykonos rather than Santorini and finally Athens and for this reason zero problems as especially in the summer period there are many airlines, including low coast ones, which from all over Europe have daily flights or even several times a day. Then you must necessarily take a ferry if you choose to fly to Santorini or Mykonos, for Athens instead you can decide whether by sea or with an internal flight.
From Mykonos: definitely the closest to Naxos. Journey times range from 40 minutes to 80 minutes depending on the type of boat you choose and above all which will cover the route.
From Santorini: Journey times range from 60 minutes to 120 minutes.
From Athens with internal flight: especially for those who have problems with seasickness, this solution is perfect.
From Athens by sea: from the port of Piraeus there are ferries that take you to Naxos and the times range from 3 to 6 hours.
From Naxos it is also possible to connect to the other fantastic Aegean islands such as the small pearls of Donoussa, Schinoussa, Iraklia and Koufounissi which you absolutely must not miss!
And again towards the Dodecanese precisely in the beautiful Astypalea and from there you can choose whether to go to Rhodes or Kos for example.
Even Crete can be reached from Naxos every day by sea with the hydrofoils that arrive in Heraklion also touching Ios and Santorini.
