Milos, a rough diamond of the Cyclades archipelago, where mass tourism has not yet managed to enter perhaps also thanks to the fact that the island refuses to build large resorts and for this alone we will be eternally grateful.
In 2021 it earned second place among the most beautiful islands in the world and in our opinion all deserved! For holidays in Greece 2024 we still expect a full house.
The island of Venus synonymous with beauty whose ancient statue was found right here by a farmer in 1820, the island with its spectacular white rocks, colored mines, caves, quarries and spectacular stacks to leave you speechless and with your nose upwards which, mixing with the colors of the sea, make the landscape a mirage of bliss and peace.
Milos, of volcanic origin with a horseshoe shape where its formations take on different colors so as to be even called the “island of colors”. A stretch of emerged land to be discovered where elegance and simplicity go hand in hand like two crazy lovers who swear love to each other forever. A sophisticated atmosphere where there is no unbridled nightlife, only uncontaminated nature and moments of relaxation.
The eastern part is dominated by mountains which make access difficult and act as a shield for wild construction, think that there are no large resorts in Milos and there never will be as the administration is absolutely against it.
Reaching Milos is not difficult, there are various options, it always depends on how much time you have at your disposal and what type of trip you have in mind for your holidays in Greece 2023.
We specify that to reach Milos, there are no direct flights, you always have to take a flight + ferry or with an additional internal flight. Here are all the opportunities you can choose from.
These are the options from Athens, Santorini and Mykonos. Therefore, these three airports can be reached from all over Europe and then continue the journey by ferry.
From Athens: here there are two variants, the first with an internal flight that follows the Athens-Milos route (attention, they are very small planes with a maximum of 40 seats).
The alternative is to arrive in Athens and then continue by ferry to Milos. The port of departure is only Piraeus and usually there are also six trips every day or with hydrofoils rather than slower ships with trips ranging from scarce 3 hours up to 7.
From Santorini: Santorini is geographically the closest island to Milos, and the journey is about a couple of hours which also reaches Folegandros. The only problem that can arise is the fact that the flight times do not coincide with the ferry times. You will therefore be forced to spend one night and at worst two in Santorini but it could be a romantic idea.
However, there are also ships that cost less but are not there every day and usually have evening departures with night arrivals in Milos.
From Mykonos: Unlike Santorini, Mykonos is about 6 hours by boat from Milos, and the cost is even higher, but it can be a valid alternative if you also want to combine a few days of Mykonian vacation.
From Rhodes and Crete: and yes, who would have thought it, even from Rhodes or Crete you can reach the island of Milos, certainly a slightly longer trip that also touches the island of Karpathos and the island of Anafi but which can be a pleasant interlude of your holiday.
Milos, being in the center of the Cyclades, also offers the opportunity to reach Sifnos, Folegandros, Ios and Serifos. If you want, if you are in Paros or Naxos, you can reach Milos with weekly trips.
Here are all the ways to get to beautiful Milos revealed, but remember that if you don’t feel like organizing the trip yourself, Meravigliose Isole Greche will be happy to do it for you!
