Santorini is an island with completely rocky edges, while in the center there are valleys and it is flat. Reaching the beaches is not difficult apart from those found in the pristine and tremendously wild east area such as the secret and secluded Capo Colombo beach only for nature and naturism lovers.
The island is about 77 square kilometers large, for a length of 18 and a width of 12, therefore all in all small. As the saying goes, good wine is in small barrels and nothing is more appropriate in this case. Santorini from ancient times to the present day is also perfect for food and wine holidays. Its volcanic origin makes the soil rich in minerals that make any type of plant grow and the southern part is the most developed especially in the cultivation of the vine. There are many native vines that give precious nectars and known all over the world such as the dry white of Assyrtiko grapes or the Nyketeri, also a white made with bunches harvested exclusively at night as tradition dictates (nikta in Greek means precisely night) which you can taste from April to November directly in the cellars which will also delight your palate with appetizers based on local products such as cherry tomatoes or white aubergines.
There is so much to do and to see in Santorini as an alternative to idle days under an umbrella also because between us they are much more interesting than the beaches which are scenic and beautiful but which can also be abandoned for a half day to discover a territory that can give so much.
Getting around Santorini is simple, you can decide how to do it according to your budget or your preferences.
Car: perfect if you are staying on the island for a few days. Even if distances are not that important, four wheels are the fastest way to get from one place to another without wasting too much time. There are many charterers, our advice is to book in advance so as not to arrive and find nothing or at soaring prices.
Scooter: fast, easy to park and goes everywhere. The only caution, take at least 80 cc. Because between climbs and descents if you are not exactly sylphs, it will be a lot of effort. Better to choose a 150 cc that will take you everywhere without too many problems.
Quad: such and such a speech as for the scooter. Better a 250 cc and off to the streets of the island.
Public transport: it is good and during the summer season there are various rides during the day that cover all the areas including many beaches. So if your budget to invest in a vehicle is limited, this option is ideal because it's cheap. Obviously times are getting longer in a bit but you won't go crazy looking for very limited service parking in Santorini.
