Faliraki Rhodes

The Faliraki town, we find it about fifteen kilometers from the Rhodes capital Town on the southeast side.

Second most important center of the Rhodes island, Faliraki has seen a strong evolution from the tourist point of view becoming today a very popular destination for travelers, both for its excellent position as a base for visiting the island, which for the countless opportunities ranging from accommodation facilities to entertainment to all the amenities that are usually looked for on vacation.

Over time the Faliraki village has changed its type of clientele, until a few years ago it was considered a bit like the Ibiza of Greece, where from the early afternoon on the beach until sunset the beaches became discos under the stars and fleets young people occupied the area with non stop parties and entertainment. These places exist even today, but in the last ten years. Many night exercises have been renewed and transformed into pretty cafes, typical taverns shops and restaurants, thus offering a type of holiday not exclusively based on nightlife, but also suitable for families, couples and groups of friends who want a little of everything. Even the hotels have refreshed their look in order to give space and accommodate a different type of tourism making the Faliraki village become a place for all tastes and needs.

Faliraki was born as a small fishing village and its name was originally "Pachynamos" which means thick sand as you will notice that the grains of the beach are much larger than the other beaches and in the past it was full of dunes especially in winter when the waves of the sea swelled by winds and currents were pushed on the coast.

In 1912 the Italians landed in Rhodes right on the main Faliraki beach and enraptured by the natural beauty of the area, they began to build infrastructures such as the beautiful  Kallithea spas and the town hall of the homonymous village. Many buildings in Rhodes were built with Faliraki sand which had an extraordinary abundance of it.

A couple of years after the independence of Greece in 1947, an Pachynamos inhabitant Mr. Panagiotis Statiou opened the first beach café where there is now the center of the village and I called it 'Faliraki because it reminded him of a beach in the Faliro area in Athens where he stayed for some time of his life, which in turn made him think of his home. In the 1950s the Faliraki name was made official for the entire area. A few years later, three other local fishermen's restaurants are opened to feed the workers who loaded the sand thus beginning the expansion of the village. At the end of the 60s, on the other hand, houses and structures were started to be built to welcome tourists until it became a highly sought after place by famous Greek and international artists, actors and high personalities all enchanted by the beauty of Faliraki.

The picturesque promenade is a riot of bistros, taverns and restaurants overlooking the sea where you can find various types of cuisine ranging from classic Greek, Italian, Japanese cuisine and whoever has more. If you want something outside the tourist circuit, Tsiporomezes tou Kosta could be for you. Faliraki is also full of places that serve street food if you want something fast like a succulent pita gyros.

Faliraki beach, one of the longest on the Rhodes coast, super equipped, offers any type of activity and fun. A long expanse of soft sand with a clean and blue sea despite being always very crowded, from the seabed that descends gently and much loved by families with children where, the little ones can have fun and the big ones drink a cool cocktail under the umbrella without too many worries . Numerous water activities for everyone's joy and for all tastes such as windsurfing, water skiing, bugee jumping and points where you can rent snorkelling equipment or deep sea fishing.

Even for nightlife lovers, a wide range of places to choose to spend the crazy Greek nights, starting from the Badrock Bar (https://www.facebook.com/pg/bedrockclubfaliraki/photos/?ref=page_internal ) furnished as if it were a prehistoric cave and faithful reproduction of the Flinstones cartoon, to then move on to the Sting Club (https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Dance---Night-Club/Sting-Fabric-Club-579248182170057 / ) a disco-bar with its beautiful themed parties and evenings with international DJs, and still the legendary Bar Street where pubs, disco pubs and bars will give you a headache just to figure out where to throw yourself for the evening.

For those who want to take advantage of the alternatives that the area offers in addition to the beach, we indicate as destinations the beautiful Kaltihea Baths just outside Faliraki which are not active spas but a sumptuous art deco complex to visit for the beauty of the mosaics and the imposing patio and then maybe take a dip in the beautiful Kallithea beach , or explore the Rodini Park a valley of unique beauty with lots of greenery, waterways, artificial lakes and in the center a garden with deer (the symbol of the Rhodes island), peacocks, turtles all completely free. The origins of this park date back to 330 BC, designed and built by the Romans where the ruins of the Rhodes aqueduct and the remains of a Ptolemaic tomb with twenty-one Doric columns are located inside.

To please the little ones, Faliraki has an Aquatic Park, the Water Park one of the most famous in all of Europe. Very large with swimming pools, slides, tubes, the pirate ship or the Tarzan swimming pool suitable for children, and still the Kamikaze and the most recommended giant slides for the bravest. The Lazy River path, on the other hand, is definitely for those who want to relax without too many strong emotions while comfortably lying on a donut and being pampered and accompanied by the current of water throughout the journey. The swimming pools with the inevitable waves are obviously another must in the park. There is a refreshment area where you can drink or eat something. The Water Park is open from 9.30 to 19.00 and costs € 24 for adults, € 16 for children aged 3 to 12 and for the little ones it is free. Telephone (+30) 22410 84403 https://www.water-park.gr/explore.

In short, what more could you ask for from a small but well stocked area? Nothing just to put it on the list of things to do in Rhodes during your holiday in Greece because losing it would be a great pity.
