It is the second largest Greek island and is connected to the mainland by a bridge so it can be reached without ferries and for this reason the main seaside resorts are weekend tourist destinations for Greeks, especially Athenians, who reach it in about two hours.
Evia or Eubea has not yet been stormed by international tourism and therefore fortunately, it remains uncontaminated offering tranquillity, emotions and a variety of landscapes ideal for all types of travellers: mountain roads, trekking routes, archaeological sites and of course beaches both equipped than free and wild.
It is crossed from north to south by a mountain ridge which divides it into two completely different parts: to the west, closer to the mainland, you will find a gentler landscape with wide beaches and more developed villages while to the east nature reigns supreme and the coast is rougher with smaller beaches. Evia also offers culture, traditions and good food in fact you can visit its capital Chalkida or the ruins of Eretria.
It has beautiful beaches and one of these is called the “Seychelles of the Aegean” precisely because the colors recall the white African beaches.
We have selected the ones that we think are absolutely worth a visit:
North Part
In the north, the beaches are mainly pebbly and surrounded by rich vegetation. Furthermore, it is possible to reach the islet of Lichadonisia, with sandy beaches inhabited by the monk seal.
Lichadonisia Beach
The group of small islands located in the northwest part of the beautiful Evia island, have been nicknamed the Greek Seychelles for the soft, white sand beaches like talcum powder and for the colors of the sea with all shades of blue just like the beaches of famous island in the Indian Ocean. Manolia is the largest of this group, of volcanic origin, it has rich vegetation and is the only one equipped with a beach bar while the others are still wild so much so that a family of seals has settled in their clear waters, adapting so well to look almost tame.
Rovies Beach
In the northwest part of Evia we find Rovies, a wide beach of white pebbles that offers wonderful sunsets. The beach a few kilometers long and up to about 20 meters wide is made of small smooth pebbles, surrounded by a rich vegetation of maritime pines that create natural shade but also has an area equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas for hire. There are also bars and taverns for a famous Nescafè milkshake or a typical lunch. It can be reached by an easily passable dirt road. Ideal for families with children given its crystal clear sea and peaceful environment.
Nissiotissa Beach
Located to the northwest, it is a long beach perfect for those who like to swim in crystal clear waters or for those who like to walk along the seafront. There are fish taverns and an ouzeria where you can savor local delicacies.
Agia Anna Beach
Located in the northeastern part of the Evia island in front of the Sporades islands, we find the spectacular Agia Anna Beach: about 5 kilometers long, it has a mixed sand-pebble coastline, a transparent sea and is the longest beach on the island. Quiet where relaxation is assured, ideal for everyone, given its size and also suitable for families with children. It is partly free and partly equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, water sports facilities, beach bars and taverns where you can enjoy fresh fish. It is surrounded by pine trees and thanks to its beautiful sea with sparkling blue waters, it creates a “postcard” effect. The nature that surrounds it makes it look like an amphitheater and the effect at sunset remains forever in the heart. Crystal clear water during the day but “lunar” at night, thanks to the absence of artificial lighting which makes it a large mirror in which the stars are reflected.
Pefki Beach
It is a long sandy beach with blue waters and verdant vegetation located on the northern side of the island. The beach has strong currents ideal for kite surfers. The surrounding area offers taverns and restaurants, while there is also a camping site nearby.
Politika Beach
Located near the fishing village of the same name, 25 km from Chalcis. People come here for privacy, amidst impressive nature and to swim in incredibly clear turquoise waters. The wide and long (2.5 km) sand and pebble coast, mostly covered with large pebbles, is surrounded by the fantastic forest, where it is possible to enjoy a regenerating walk. The shore is covered with dark sand with white and gray pebbles. The entry into the sea is gentle with a significant part of shallow water, but sometimes quite large waves form here. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available and an organized campsite. In summer, there is a café and pizzeria on the shore. In the village of the same name there are taverns and decent restaurants while on the seafront you can rent boats or motorboats for a nice trip in the surroundings. An ancient lighthouse is the identifying mark of the beach.
East Part
Vithouri Beach
It is a small pebble beach with turquoise and crystalline waters, surrounded by high cliffs for which the sun remains for a few hours a day, therefore it is advisable to arrive early and grab the best place to enjoy the tranquility and beauty of its sea. It is not equipped so it is better to bring everything you need for the whole day.
Limnios Beach
In the central part of the Evia island on the east side we find Limnionas Beach one hour and fifteen minutes away by car from the capital Chalkidi. Its peculiarity is the cherry-colored sand, mixed with pebbles, which in the hottest hours makes it difficult to walk barefoot as it gets hot. It boasts turquoise waters and dense vegetation with an intense blue sea that immediately becomes deep so not recommended for small children or inexperienced swimmers. At the center of the coast, a characteristic rock makes the beach even wilder, so much so that campers can be found at the weekend even if it is definitely forbidden. The beach is not equipped but there are a couple of kiosks for aperitifs or quick snacks while in the immediate vicinity there are taverns and restaurants. The surrounding sea caves are ideal for those who like to explore.
Korasida Beach
In the central part of the island is a sand and pebble beach with turquoise waters, surrounded by rocky cliffs and lush vegetation. It is one of the most beautiful beaches of Evia due to its rare geographical formations: the Honeftiko spring (in Greek it means digestive) flowing on the beach has curative properties for digestion, kidneys and stomach. It is considered one of the most picturesque on the island due to the intense colors of the sea, the beach and the rich wild flora behind it. It is called the sugar beach due to the small white pebbles that contrast with the intense and transparent turquoise of the sea. It is divided by a small hill which forms two inlets. We recommend visiting it early in the morning and avoiding the weekend because, being just over a kilometer long, it fills up easily but don’t miss this marvel where the blue of the Aegean sea meets the green of the mountains. There are no kiosks or taverns so bring everything you need if you decide to stop for the day.
Hiliadou Beach
One of the wildest and most uncontaminated of Evia, also frequented by naturists and located on the central-east coast with high rock formations also suitable for climbing. However, the beach is quite extensive and there is room for everyone, you can find both sand and pebbles of all sizes. It is located at the foot of Mount Dirfi and its characteristic is the presence of various rocks inside and outside the sea which often form small beaches. The whole area is surrounded by a forest and a river on the east side of the beach. Its crystal clear waters become deep immediately so it is suitable for expert swimmers. Facing north, it is often exposed to strong winds but just consult the weather to understand where the mischievous Aeolus comes from. It is not equipped but a short distance away you can find two kiosks for a quick lunch and a couple of taverns above the beach. The final part opens onto another small coast frequented mainly by naturists.
Thapsa Beach
In the central part of the island on the east side, it is one of the most beautiful beaches with fascinating sceneries: sand mixed with white pebbles contrasting with crystalline turquoise waters. However, it is also one of the most inaccessible beaches on the island, as to get there you have to travel a ten kilometer dirt road only with a 4×4 vehicle. All around a rich emerald green vegetation makes the atmosphere magical. It is not equipped so we advise you to bring everything you need to spend a beautiful day in paradise.
South Part
Arriving in the southern part of the island, the luxuriant vegetation of the central-northern becomes more arid and barren; often beaten by the Meltemi, which blows on this area especially in the warmer months, it recalls the Cycladic landscapes. On the other hand it offers enchanting beaches with clear sand and shallow waters.
Kavos Beach
It is a long sand and pebble beach with turquoise waters and rich vegetation that surrounds it, located in the southeastern part of Evia. It is well equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas and some beach bars. Kavos is also the ideal destination for windsurfers.
Megali Ammos Beach
On the southwest side in the Marmari area there is Megali Ammos Beach, windy and usually crowded, it is a stop not to be missed. It is famous for its strange shape, because it is a strip of soft white sand that changes shape according to the direction of the wind and the waves. The sea is immediately deep therefore it is not suitable for families with small children or inexperienced swimmers but it is perfect for surf lovers or those disciplines where currents are essential. It is not equipped but in the nearby town of Marmari you will find everything you need to refresh yourself and refresh yourself.
Marmari Beach
Beautiful sandy beach, often crowded because it is well equipped and close to the village of the same name. Exposed to the winds that refresh in the summer months, it is a must for all diving enthusiasts, the seabed is among the most beautiful and uncontaminated in the entire Aegean.
Kalamos Beach
Kalmos Beach is located in the central part of the island in the south-east and for many it is the most beautiful because it is completely made of white sand and deep blue waters. It is divided into two small coves by a rocky peninsula surrounded by pine trees and lush nature. The first beach is called Kali (which in Greek means good) because the sea is always calm here while the other has been nicknamed Kakia (in Greek it means bad) because the sea is often rough and in fact Kali is more popular while Kakia is the It’s ideal for nature lovers. Its beauty and ease of reaching it make it very crowded also because it is equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, beach bars and taverns. Much loved by young people for the music of the beach bars.
Agios Dimitros Beach
Southeast of the Evia island following a path of the main road of Marmari, we find this suggestive beach of coarse sand mixed with small white pebbles that plunge into a turquoise sea. It is not easy to reach it because after a dirt road of about two kilometers, you have to cross a small stream which eventually turns into a pond and from here the beach begins but we assure you that you do not need a 4×4, it is easier to do it than say it. If you don’t feel like making the last stretch by car, you can still get to the beach with a walk of about 15 minutes. Obviously it is not equipped and as always we recommend water and food if you want to spend the whole day there. Nearby for the more curious you will find a small beach where campers usually like to stop. The trip is also worth visiting the Byzantine era chapel dating back to the 11th century which is located a short distance away.
Kallianos Beach
Kallianos Beach is another jewel of the southeast side of the Evia island which takes its name from the homonymous village. A few kilometers from crowded Marmari you arrive in a paradise of sand mixed with large pebbles with a turquoise sea that will remain etched in your memory and a rich vegetation that frames. It is the ideal place for complete relaxation while enjoying nature in peace; for this reason it is often a destination for campers and campers. The beach is not equipped but there are a couple of taverns where you can cool off with a drink or a meal.
Armyrichi Beach
This wonderful beach is located in the southern part of the island, in a bay protected from the wind, surrounded by unspoilt nature, with deep blue waters that are immediately very deep and a coastline made up of coarse sand. Due to its beauty it has been used for several Greek TV commercials. The landscape around is still untouched and the beauty of nature is magnificent. It can be reached easily along a paved road but despite the simplicity in reaching it, it is never crowded and due to the depth of the water, it is not suitable for families with children. You will find a renowned tavern where you can enjoy excellent local cuisine and good Greek wine.
Bouros Beach
Also to the south we find this other splendid sandy beach with turquoise waters and sheltered from the winds. It is equipped for those who want to rent sunbeds, umbrellas and there is a tavern. On the southeast side, about half a kilometer from the center of Karystos, there is this tiny beach with fine sand, suitable for families with children. It is accessed via a stone staircase from the main road along the coast. There are taverns and restaurants in the surroundings.
Central Area
The beaches in the central area differ between those located on the side facing the Continent and that towards the East because on the latter side the coast is very high, access to the beaches is therefore not always easy and the sea in the late afternoon could be slightly moved. On the western side instead, facing the mainland, the beaches are easy to access with generally calm waters. However, the colors and shades of the sea and the nature that the eastern side offers are worth the trip, so don’t miss the opportunity to visit it.
Alikes Beach
Close to the capital Chalkidi it is a long sandy beach equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas and it is possible to practice water sports. There are taverns and bars.

A beach south of Cape Sarkiniko with volcanic sand mixed with pebbles with turquoise waters and surrounded by a wonderful nature of pine trees and low hills, ideal for total relaxation. A clean and transparent sea which, however, descends very quickly and therefore dangerous for the little ones and for those who are not expert swimmers. Reaching it like all the hidden pearls of the Greek Islands is not child’s play, first of all you need to have a 4×4 and then pay close attention to driving as the road is all downhill with a significant slope.
