Dimosari Gorge Evia

The fantastic Dimosari Gorge is located southeast of the Evia island right on themountain range where there is Mount Ochi with an altitude of 1386meters.

It is considered one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Greece and some dare even inEurope with a length of twelve kilometers that lead to the sea in Kallianou beach. It is divided into two parts, the upper gorge thatreaches down to the deserted Lenoseoi village is extremely wild, with steep rocky slopes and deep streams, while the lower gorge thatdescends towards the sea becomes a narrow and less impervious valley.

A wonderful naturethrough a forest of chestnut trees, wild olive trees, fruit trees, oaks, holly trees, centuries old plane trees, colorful flowers andspecies that are now almost unobtainable, a rare and varied wildlifeof owls, eagles, buzzards, nightingales, turtles and salamanders .The highest part is wetter and colder than the canyon and thevegetation is completely different from the final part as it is muchhotter.

Its name comes from thesmall river Dimosaris which rushes all year round from the top ofMount Ochi through the gorge to the sea.

Halfway there is therural Lenoseoi village where above everything becomes primitiveand steep, especially suitable for trekking experts. Below, however, everything turns into a valley that runs along the river covered byhuge trees that prevent the sun from entering in some places, betweenbubbling streams until you reach the sea where you can enjoy a nicerefreshing dip in the Aegean after a magical walk among a forest fullof scents and life.

Starting right from the topof Monte Ochi you will walk on the ancient medieval path with apavement paved with large pebbles. In the past the path between theravine was the main communication route in the southern part of the Evia island connecting the areas of Karystos with Kavodoro. If youwant a non demanding but equally exciting route, the starting pointis from Petrokanalo (954 meters) on the north side. However, the walkcan be done easily if trained in about four hours but it is advisableto take it easy, there are many things to dwell on, dedicating up tosix hours to it.

Near Lenoseoi, you willfind the Skala Lanoseoi locality where you will meet spectacular waterfalls of clear spring waters and small green and blue lakeswhere it is possible to swim in the crystalline waters, even if alittle cold.

During the ancientperiod, in the direction of Kallianos, it is said that there weremetal mines as rust was found on the beach and in the southern areaof the gorge.

Definitely a perfectexcursion for lovers of natural beauties and here you will findgalore to blend totally with Mother Nature, for those who lovephotography given the wonderful and enchanted landscapes that youreyes can enjoy, for lovers of fauna and flora it grows spontaneouslystill following the natural rhythms, but above all to discover aterritory rich in history and charm still little known by masstourism.

An activity to beincluded among the things to do in Evia, a dive into the past whereeverything is still in its original state where you can recharge yourbody and soul.
