The Chalkolimionas Beach, we find it in the southern part on the west side of the beautiful Andros island in the important archaeological area of Stavropeda. The port of Gavrio is twenty-four kilometers away while Chora the capital is twelve.
A coastline mainly of sand with some pebbles and rocks scattered throughout the beach, bathed by a turquoise blue sea with transparent and clean waters. The seabed drops gently and is thus perfect for families with children or for lovers of long swims. Given the presence of many rocks, the Chalkolimionas beach is very popular with fishing enthusiasts and of course also suitable for those who prefer to snorkel and discover the flora and fish fauna.
Its position right inside a picturesque bay protects it from the wind that cyclically blows over all the Greek Islands. Its name literally means “Porto di Ottone” and derives from the fact that in the past the area was rich in mines.
The Chalkolimionas beach is partly equipped with sun beds and umbrellas, while to eat or drink something, there is a classic traditional tavern where you can also taste local cuisine.
You will notice stone fences called in Greek Pezoules small fences that delimit the area made of thin layers of slate arranged horizontally and vertically as well as the small church of Agios Ioannis. If you are in the mood for a bit of history, the whole area of Stavropeda where the Chalkolimionas beach is located is very important for the archaeological treasures found such as the site of Strofilia considered the largest Neolithic settlement in the entire Aegean Sea, and the geometric site of Zagorà dating back to the period of the early Iron Age where a temple dedicated to the goddess Artemis, presumably her guardian, was discovered.
Also in this case it is very easy because the paved road goes right down to the beach. Then head south west, follow the signs for Stavropeda and then turn right and right again until you reach Chalkolimionas.
Once you arrive, you can park your vehicle, whether it’s a car or a scooter, in the convenient parking behind the coast and enjoy a beautiful day at the beach in a still natural and almost intact context.
Another small pearl of the island, where you can spend a pleasant day being kissed by the sun and indulge in refreshing baths and why not eat some dish still unknown to you. A good opportunity to visit the area and to be included among the things to see in Andros.
