Batsi Village Andros

The Batsi village is located in the south-eastern part of the Andros island about seven kilometers from the Gavrio village and twenty-five from the capital Andros Chora.

Also like Gavrio in the area called Hydroussa, it is set in a beautiful bay with a small marina where both fishermen’s boats and vacationers’ yachts dock in the south, and on the other side with a sandy beach bathed by a clean sea. with iridescent shades of blue, very protected from the winds and fully equipped, a real paradise for families with children.

A cosmopolitan town that despite everything still manages to have that typically Greek flavor and atmosphere linked to the customs of past times.

The town built as an amphitheater with its red tiled roofs a real rarity in the Cyclades Islands where the houses are generally completely immaculate white and with a flat roof, has changed a lot in recent years becoming a focal point for the island of Andros with many accommodation facilities from hotels to apartments or guest houses, clubs for evening entertainment (in fact Batsi is one of the places where the nightlife is more lively), nice cafes where to stop for a coffee, bars, trendy restaurants and typical taverns where to taste traditional Greek and local dishes and last but not least the convenience within easy reach of fantastic beaches, among which the most convenient one in the village awarded by the Blue Flag which hosts many water sports events.

Some of the quiet beaches near Batsi are Chrissi Ammos beach three kilometers to the north, Stivari beach about a kilometer of sand and pebbles and Agia Marina beach just after soft sandy Batsi and a quaint tavern right on the sea.

Between the Gavrio village and theBatsi village, we find the Monastery of Zoodochou Pigi, the largest on the island. An architectural marvel in the Byzantine style with a particular wooden temple inside and a well-stocked library of ancient manuscripts. It can be reached via a dirt path from Agio Primiano.

Starting from Basti it is also possible to visit Ipsili, an important fortified settlement dating back to the Iron Age, where a part of the urban agglomeration of the geometric period has recently been discovered. Throughout the area you can admire large historic farmhouses. The ancient city of Ipsili which is located exactly in Aprovatou dating back to the eighth century BC was unearthed in the 1980s revealing ancient relics of the highest value such as the temple exactly in the center of the acropolis. It is assumed that the sanctuary in the center of the town was erected in honor of the Goddess Demeter.

Finally, about twelve kilometers from the Batsi village, we find the Archaeological Museum of Paleopoli in the past centuries the capital of Andros, which collects artifacts of high historical value such as the marble plate dedicated to the Goddess Isis Dea which represents the female power of love and the search for a soul mate, the only surviving relic in Greece as well as sculptures and coins. The most valuable piece is the marble lion, a statuette representing Artemis.

Finally, to finish, some very interesting paths for trekking lovers start from the Basti village in the middle of nature and rural landscapes.
