The beautiful Anthony Quinn Bay is located in the east part sixteen kilometers from the capital Rhodos Town and only four kilometers from the lively tourist resort of Faliraki.
One of the most beautiful bays of Rhodes together with Lindos, it is a small lost and still uncontaminated cove, never too beaten by the wind with a calm turquoise sea with reddish rocks around it, a coast of pebbles and flat stones . Behind pine trees that make the landscape even more spectacular. The seabed of sand mixed with rock and extremely crystalline, is a paradise for snorkelers who can have fun for the thriving marine fauna. It is not really suitable for children and people with walking problems due to its not flat and regular conformation.
The bay whose original name would be Vagies was given to him since in 1961 the shooting of the famous film "The cannons of Navarone" was shot starring the actor Anthony Quinn (not to be confused with another famous film "Zorbas the Greek ”Starring Anthony Quinn who was shot in Crete) who, totally in love with the coast, decided to buy it. In 1990, however, he returned this small corner of Paradise to the island of Rhodes which, out of gratitude, he thought of leaving his new name unchanged.
The beach, despite its small size, is equipped with a few beds and umbrella (cost about € 10 per day) and right above, through a ladder you get to a bar restaurant with spectacular views of the bay where you can find something cool to drink and eat or a quick snack or a full lunch based on Greek and local cuisine.
If you want to have a full day, we advise you to go early in the morning to find a comfortable place even if especially in the summer there will hardly be few people, being one of the most visited places on the island, in doing so you will have the possibility of finding a better place. If, on the other hand, you just want to go for a dip in the clear waters and a set of photographs to keep in your memories, we recommend the sunset when usually most tourists tend to return to their accommodation, leaving the bay bare of people and where it will be possible be more peaceful. For the more early risers, dawn is another excellent moment when the rising of the sea only illuminates the landscape and gives grace to the surrounding nature.
It is very easy to reach the beach, from Faliraki going south you come to a crossroads for Ladiko bay. At about one hundred meters at the crossroads, take the road on the left, pass the Pefka beach and walk from the parking lot where the kiosk is located to reach the bay by going down the stairs. To get to Anthony Quinn beach it is not necessary to have a car, a motorbike or a quad bike are more than enough.
Finally, what to say about this wonderful corner if not to dedicate at least one visit or a whole day to it, planned and included in the things to see on Rhodes island this beach, you will not regret it.
