Alyko beach is located in the south-western part of the Naxos island about eighteen kilometers from the capital Chora just after Kastraki beach and Glyfada beach.
It is considered one of the largest of all the spectacular beaches of the island and given its wild nature, it is much loved by travelers who want to spend a day at the beach in complete relaxation.
The Alyko peninsula which hosts this wonderful glimpse of Naxos, is of rare and completely natural beauty, the coast is of fine white sand with gentle dunes and cedar trees, bathed by a transparent sea and colors that go from blue to blue turquoise to blue. The seabed descends gently and is much loved by families with children and by those who enjoy long and relaxing swims. Given its position, Alyko beach is almost always protected from winds.
Alyko beach is not really one, let’s say that in the central area there is the largest part, but then it is a succession of small coves such as Mikri Alyko, Kedros and Hawaii where you can also stay all day in complete solitude .
The wider stretch is very popular and popular even though it is not equipped at all, here there are no comfortable beds and umbrellas, everything is complete free and intact as mother nature created it. A few tamarisk trees frame it just to give some shade and respite during the hot summer day. We find Kedros beach just after Glyfada beach in the southernmost part of the Alyko peninsula and has a scenic forest of creeds behind it that reach up to the white sand beach, just after Hawaii beach with about ten meters of descent before arriving at the shore, with some rock formations that divide it from Kedros beach and red cliffs just behind. Last but not least, Mikro Alyko beach (mikro means small in Greek) is instead a small cove also of soft golden sand sheltered from the wind and perfect for a parenthesis of pure bliss.
The peculiarity of Alyko beach is undoubtedly the ancient cedar forest declared a protected area with a typically exotic flavor and considered one of the largest of the eight present on the Hellenic territory. Eight hundred square meters of rare habitat where different species of cedars, junipers, bushes and wild flowers alternate with sweet sand dunes, conifers that are also two hundred and three hundred years old up to six meters high and with a trunk of about one meter, a real and a true masterpiece of nature.
However in the area around the peninsula towards Pyrgaki, you can find typical bars and taverns where you can delight yourself with local cuisine based on fresh products and ancient recipes. There are no buildings except a real “monster” as we define it on the tip which was probably to be a never completed resort and which sincerely ruins the landscape but, if you know how to go beyond this small inconvenience, you will discover a real Eden.
If you are equipped with a car or have opted for a scooter it is very simple, take the south west direction, follow the asphalt road and the signs. You can choose whether to get there from Vivlos or from Plaka beach and both opportunities will offer you a fantastic panorama of the whole area and the peninsula. If, on the other hand, you do not have your own means of transport, from the central bus station to the port of the capital, there are runs almost every day. Always check the timetable and as always we suggest you advise the driver what your destination will be as stops are sometimes not respected.
Here too the words can hardly explain the beauty of Alyko beach as always you have to see it with your own eyes and that is why we strongly recommend you to mark it among the things to see in Naxos.
