The gastronomic side of a holiday is always a very important aspect and that is why I selected a list and not a ranking of where to eat in Alonnisos to taste the cuisine of Greece full of delicious dishes that will make you want “every once you think about it “to come back as soon as possible.

TASIAS’S RESTAURANT

Taverna Tasias’s is located right on the small port of Steni Vala and will give you the opportunity to have lunch or dinner outside near the clear waters of Alonissos or in the cool under the pergola. The owner Ms. Tassia is the heart of the restaurant and has been running the business since 1984 when it was opened. A family run environment where it is perceived that it is the “mother” who cooks and will make you feel at home “on Sunday”. The menu is mainly based on very fresh fish (caught by other family members who have the task of supplying the restaurant every day) based on ancient recipes handed down by the old fishermen of Alonissos and dishes from classic and traditional Greek based cuisine of vegetables grown in the family garden. To taste absolutely the lobster pasta (the owners are really proud of this recipe) and the mezes based on seafood. The main dish on the menu is scorpion fish boiled in lemon sauce with vegetables, a Tassia recipe. The value for money is considered excellent.

TO FANARI FISH TAVERNA

The Taverna right on the marina of Steni Vala, has a family tradition started with Paul and Nausika and managed for about 25 years by his son Stamatis Drossakis born and raised in Alonissos with his wife Vassiliki. The menu is mainly fish, seafood and also stewed meat in various ways. The specialty of the tavern is the grouper in lemon sauce. Other dishes to taste are the lobster linguine, the smoked tuna fillet and a large amount of appetizers based on fish, vegetables and meat of the classic cuisine of the Sporades Islands. Prices are generally around € 25 per person (obviously if you don’t eat lobster), and include an appetizer, salad, a main course and drinks.

MAINA RESTAURANT

Directly on the port (be careful not to drink too much, otherwise you risk falling into the sea), you will find this delicious restaurant present in Alonissos for about 18 years. Family-run it offers fish dishes as the father of the owner Mr. Nikos Papavaliseiou is a fisherman by profession and every day gives his kitchen a super fresh catch. Their specialty is lobster with spaghetti (Makaronada astakos) or grilled lobster (astakos sti schara), but also all the other typical Greek dishes are delicious. The value for money is excellent.

THEA RESTAURANT

Thea Restaurant is located in the Alonissos Old Town and the beautiful panoramic terrace offers breathtaking sea views. Family run headed by Mrs. Eleni Ioannou, this lovely restaurant that has only been open for a year has already met with considerable interest and preferences from guest travelers on Alonissos Island. The menu of the Mediterranean tradition with a mix of ingredients from other Greek islands gives different flavors and taste experiences that are always linked to the territory. The dishes are almost all revisited in a modern way to give that extra touch and to differentiate themselves from other restaurants. To taste the “Skioufhita” a fresh homemade pasta from Crete with tomato, apaki (smoked pork), feta cheese and Cretan staka cheese, or the sea bream fillet with cherry tomato and olive sauce accompanied by pea puree , the vine leaves stuffed with seafood (squid, mussels, shrimp) and saffron sauce and again the caramelised octopus accompanied by the Santorini beans and finally lentils with Alonissos tuna, onion, pepper, carrot, tomato and pickles. In short, a real pleasure for your taste buds.Prices range from € 20 to € 35 for a main course with a good glass of wine.

A recommendation: being in an elevated area it can happen that the wind is felt more, bring a sweater if there is not really flat calm.
