Spartia beach, we find it in the southwestern part of the Kefalonia Island in the area of Livathos about twelve kilometers from the capital Argostoli and close to other beautiful beaches such as Agios Thomas beach, Pessada beach and Makris Gyalos beach.
Behind the village of the same name, a typical traditional fishing village that climbs up a hill with its white houses with red tiles embellished with colorful and fragrant gardens, narrow and labyrinthine alleys purposely built to defend against pirates when in the past they ran around making raids in the Aegean, with an atmosphere where you will not feel simple visitors, but almost friends in fact you will never miss a smile or help from the inhabitants. The Spartia village is surrounded by a very fertile area where lush and abundant fruit trees, olive trees and vineyards grow. Right here the “Robola” wine is grown, perfect to accompany the delicious fresh fish dishes that you can taste in the typical taverns of the town or near the beach.
The name Spartia owes it to a type of weed that grows in the area and it must also be said that the locality has very ancient origins, it is believed that it was already inhabited more than 1000 years ago. Unfortunately, like much of the island of Kefalonia, with the terrible earthquake of 1953 almost everything was destroyed and only the streets of the old village remained while the houses were completely rebuilt. For a moment of respite from the beach you can go and visit the St. George fortess with its bell tower which dates back to the 15th century.
Like any coastal town, here too we find its beach which in truth are two Klimatsias and Thermantis. In the direction of the fishing pier, they are enclosed by a steep limestone cliff known as Hatzoklis which during the hottest hours will naturally shelter you from the sun and protect you when the wind blows. A narrow coast of soft gold-colored sand, bathed by clean and clear waters, never agitated on the contrary always very calm and warm, a blue sea with a seabed that descends slowly, perfect for families with children. For lovers of long swims the Spartia beach is ideal as for snorkelers who in the rocky part on the sides offers a very interesting marine fauna and flora, therefore in the suitcase fins, mask, snorkel and an underwater camera.
Spartia beach is not equipped here everything is in the wild, you can put yourself where you want and enjoy a beautiful day at sea in complete tranquility. For something to drink or eat as we said above, directly on the beach there are two taverns that will provide you with everything you need or if you are a DIY lover, in the village you will find an oven and a minimarket.
First of all you have to go south of the island on the west side, keep Pessada as a reference point then follow the road signs towards Spartia which is located about four kilometers just below.
A good opportunity perhaps to combine the other magnificent beaches in the surroundings, so absolutely to be put among the things to see in Kefalonia.
