We find the stupendous Samiopoula islet on the Samos southern coast less than a nauticalmile from the mother island.
Its name in Greekliterally means “little Samos” and is a pure moment ofbeauty and authenticity. Coming here for a day will be likedetoxifying from everything, coming into contact with a still intactnature and a surreal peace that will make you never want to leave.
Samiopoula stretchesfor more than two kilometers with a maximum height of seven hundredmeters and is mostly rocky with very few pine, cypress and olivetrees on the two hills, wild bushes of shrubs and wildflowers. Thewild goats that are lucky enough to live on this stupendous piece ofland are far superior to the stable human beings who in 2001 were asmany as five.
The small settlement has acouple of houses, shelters for shepherds, two delightful littlechurches and a typical tavern open only in the summer. It boasts onlyone beach which is considered one of the best you can find in andaround Samos, Psalida beach with its exotic character. Closed in apicturesque bay where, among other things, the boats that bringvisitors daily on the daily excursion dock, it measures just fiftymeters but its coast is of soft white sand with a sea of crazycolors, calm and where you can enjoy a relaxing swim among its clearand crystalline waters. It has a few umbrellas but since Samiopoulais still highly sought after especially in the summer months, it isalso a little crowded so the rule of first come, first served is inforce.
Right from here you cantake a nice walk on the hill and have a breathtaking view of theislet and the Samos coast. The climb is between shrubs and aterrain made of rocks so it would be better if you also bringsuitable shoes with you to venture into the heart of the island.
If you are among thosewho have the opportunity to rent a boat privately, you can also moorin a smaller bay that is always protected from the wind calledKatsakas where there is another tiny beach. Nothing detracts from thefact of reaching it on foot but it is a bit demanding and above allyou will need to have the right shoes and don’t forget to bring wateras you will be completely under the sun.
Worth visiting on theislet of Samiopoula are the Agia Pelagia parish chapels and the Ascension of Christchapel .
As you will have wellunderstood, the only way to get to this corner of Paradise is onlyand exclusively by sea.
