Rovies Beach Evia

Rovies beach is located in the northern part of the beautiful Evia Island on the west side near the village of the same name. About twenty kilometers north of Aidipsos, a very important place for Greek mythology linked to the Goddess Athena.

Let's spend a few words that it is always interesting to know the Greek myths! Athena asked the God of Fire Hephaestus for a place where warm and healing waters flowed from the earth to pay homage to a protege of her in this case Heracles (or Hercules in Roman mythology). So it was that Hephaestus satisfied her by creating the thermal springs that can be found in Aidipsos, which have become a favorite destination for those who love to pamper themselves and take care of themselves with natural remedies. Nowadays there are more than eighty springs with a temperature ranging from 28 to 86 degrees.

But let's go back to our beach which is the protagonist. Let's start by telling you that the first sensation will be that of not being on an Aegean island, you will feel like you are on the shores of a typical Swiss lake, thanks to the conformation of the territory that makes Rovies unique.

A wide strip about a few kilometers long and up to twenty meters wide, of sand mixed with gravel bathed by crystal clear waters with a blue sea with turquoise and emerald shades typical of the Vorios bay and with a seabed that descends slowly for the first three meters. The perfect place for families with children or for those who love to take long regenerating swims. However, given the presence of several pebbles, we recommend that you put on your rock shoes so as not to hurt yourself and have greater stability. Behind the pine trees that almost seem to want to touch the water where you can find natural shade during the hottest hours. And again as a protective embrace, mountains rich in vegetation.

The beach is partly well equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, a couple of taverns where you can enjoy a full meal based on fresh and local products of the classic Greek cuisine and also some bars that offer the service directly under the umbrella so that you can enjoy yourself. a colorful and refreshing cocktail blissfully lying down contemplating the sea.

Rovies beach is magical especially at sunset when the sky is tinged with a bright orange and the sun slowly disappears behind the hills. A romantic walk here is a must!

How to get to Rovies Beach

From any part of Evia Island you will be staying, the direction is towards Aidipsos and then follow the road signs towards Rovies. Once in the village, there is a piece of dirt road to go and in a short time you will be at the beach where you can leave your vehicle.

A visit is also worth making in his village which is located within an area rich in olive trees and Mediterranean scrub. A real paradise in the middle between the mountains of Kavalaris and Telethrion with a breathtaking landscape for natural beauty also made of dense forests that dominate the northern part of the Island of Evia, offering panoramic trails for trekking lovers.

The Rovies village was also the ancient city of Oroviai, a place of worship in honor of the god Apollo and Hercules. Its origins are attributed to the Byzantine period and during the Frankish domination. You can discover the Venetian Pyrgokastelo which dominates right in the center of the town, or the Monastery of Osios David the Elder where his remains and his clothes are still kept within its walls. Built in the 16th century, it was destroyed by the Turks during the Greek revolution, but was then rebuilt in 1877 by expanding it with catacombs and a small chapel.

There are so many things to see in the area, it is also worth visiting the Convent of Agia Irine Chrysovalantou which is located exactly on the road towards Limni-Rovies-Edipos where you will find two other small churches decorated with wonderful Byzantine hagiographies. And again the Galataki Monastery founded in the 10th century by a sailor from Istanbul after having survived a terrible storm at sea with a spectacular defensive tower. It is full of relics, memorabilia, icons, manuscripts and books of inestimable value and has been run by nuns since 1946.

And finally the waterfalls of Mount Driamonas at about 620 meters high. A landscape rich in centuries-old oaks, springs and native flora and fauna. Through a path with small wooden bridges, you will be able to cross the area between waterfalls of the Sepia River that fall with force from 15 meters high into a small lake. Given the high humidity and the little sunlight if you decide to visit them remember to be able to wear a sweatshirt or a jacket because the temperature is much lower. A breath of pure air as well as a path in the middle of still intact nature.

A beach with many other curiosities to be discovered and only for this reason to be included among the things to see in Evia.
