Nea Fokea Beach Halkidiki Peninsula

The Nea Fokea Beach, we find it in the Kassandra Peninsula, the first phalanx of the multifaceted Chalkidiki Peninsula in the northern part on the east side. The city of Thessaloniki is only about eighty kilometers away.

A long sandy coast bathed by crystalline and clear waters, a sea with colors that go from blue to turquoise to intense blue, with a bottom that slowly descends much loved by families with children and those who like to indulge in long swims. It is well equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, beach bars and being only two hundred meters from the town, you will be spoiled for choice between typical taverns where fresh fish and tasty seafood are served, more refined restaurants or with a international cuisine, small bars where you can stop for a coffee, shops and a few places where you can stay up late in the evening.

An idyllic setting with a slightly exotic scent perfect for a relaxing holiday, good food and wild nature as when in some places the pines extend to the edge of the water almost touching it.

The Nea Fokea village was founded by refugees from Asia Minor after 1922 when millenary Greek communities living on the border with Turkey were forced to leave their lands, but some findings suggest it was already inhabited in the prehistoric period . Once a simple fishing village as you can still understand today from the many colorful boats moored at its small port that give a seafaring atmosphere, today it is booming, offering many accommodation opportunities ranging from simple apartments to hotels.

To visit the beautiful Byzantine tower dating back to 1407 in a fairly good state of conservation and visible only from the outside which, like a lookout, dominates over the small promontory of the pese. Seventeen meters high, it belongs to the Monastery of St. Paul and in the period of the Halkidiki revolution it was the headquarters of the leader of the revolution Emmanuel Papas. Near the tower is the small church dedicated to the Apostle Saint Paul who, according to local legend, took refuge for a period during his pilgrimage where there is a cave which is presumed to have been a place of worship even before the arrival of Saint Paul. At the entrance a cross carved in stone and inside a long tunnel carved into the rock that leads to a small room adorned with icons, candles and holy water. A further passage instead leads to another deeper cave where it is assumed that the Apostle slept. The similarity of these finds suggests that they were built in the image of the Monastery located on the sacred mountain of Mount Athos dedicated to St. Paul.
