We find the beautiful Kamari beach set in a beautiful bay in the south east of Santorini about ten kilometers from the capital.
Considered the largest beach on the island, behind it lies the lively village, perfect for a holiday with all the comforts and ideal as a position to explore all the interesting places and particular beaches that the area can offer. Here you will be spoiled for choice to stay with different hotels, pensions, apartments and private villas, to eat given the multitude of typical taverns offering classic Greek cuisine, restaurants with gourmet or traditional offers revisited in a modern key, bars and clubs where to have an aperitif or a moment of relaxation, souvenir shops where to find the perfect gift for friends and all the comforts that are usually sought on vacation.
A long coastline we are talking about almost five kilometers of sandy shore mixed with black colored stones given its volcanic formation where at certain times of the day it is necessary to put on slippers as they are hot unless you are an expert in fireworks. The sea that bathes it is limpid, crystalline, almost always calm, with waters ranging from turquoise to intense blue so as to be awarded the Blue Flag every year. A large rock called Mesa Vouno divides it from the equally popular beach of Perissa. The promontory is a favorite destination for trekking lovers where it is possible to take long walks in the midst of wild and unspoiled nature with a very respectable final prize, a breathtaking view over the whole area. For the lazy ones, on the other hand, you can reach the top either by car or on the back of a donkey (please don’t do it for the love of the animals). At the top is also the site of Alt-Thera or also called Ancient City of Fira, an ancient village dating back to the 9th century BC.
Kamari beach is very well equipped, multiple beach bars with sun beds and umbrellas some of which are free but with the obligation of at least one drink, refreshment points such as bars, taverns and restaurants to drink something refreshing or calm the gurgle of hunger or for the most demanding a complete meal perhaps admiring the sea, a wide choice of water sports such as paragliding, jet skis, diving or snorkeling, both ideal given the rich depths of the bay that offer fish fauna and flora of all points, and even when Aeolus the God of the winds decides to be heard more than usual, windsurfing or kitesurfing lovers will be able to perform spectacular acrobatics.
It is really easy to reach Kamari beach, just follow the road signs towards the southeast. If you don’t have a rental car or scooter, you can still use the local bus service that leaves every day from the major tourist resorts. From Fira you can find it every half hour during the summer but as always consult the timetables. If, on the other hand, you want to be freer and not with time constraints, another alternative is a taxi, always from Fira the cost is around € 20 each way.
Dedicate it a day during your holidays in Greece, remember to put it among the things to see in Santorini, it will be a beautiful day.
