Syros island is part of the Cyclades Islands and is located under Tinos. Administrative center of the archipelago, in the past it was a land of merchants with a much more important port than the great Piraeus.
Famous for its shipyards and its shipwrights who unfortunately are disappearing, upon your arrival it may seem like a simple arid and barren mountain, in reality it is only this part, inside and towards the south it is very green and above all very peaceful where you can enjoy solitude as well as wonderful landscapes to be discovered even with healthy walks wrapped in an uncontaminated and luxuriant nature.
Most of it is concentrated in the capital Ermoupoli city of the God Hermes protector of merchants. A city all uphill above a gentle hill with a lively soul all year round where you can go to the Apollo Theater built taking inspiration from the beautiful Scala in Milan or stroll through its labyrinthine alleys, go to the Ano Siros district which can be reached after no less than 800 steps up to the Cathedral of St. Geroge and still getting lost in Vaporia another district of Ermoupoli near the port with its neoclassical style houses to then go on to Kini, a typical fishing village where the sunsets are to leave you speechless, for not to mention the beaches, spectacular with sand or pebble coasts bathed by an enchantingly clean sea of a thousand colours.
Syros is an island not much assaulted by mass tourism and is more loved by the Greeks who, moreover, come there for administrative reasons if they live in the Cyclades, and perhaps also for this reason it is still pure and tremendously genuine. You choose a holiday in Syros to have a different perspective, to get more in contact with the Greek culture and way of life as well as for a fantastic sea and many interesting and not obvious things to see.
Reaching Syros is not difficult, it has an airport but only for internal flights. The solutions are therefore either by air or by sea.
Flight: you must first arrive in Athens and from here continue with an internal flight. Here are the airlines that operate the route.
