Skiathos is very fertile so much so that one of the main sources of livelihood in addition to tourism which in recent years is becoming more and more important, is still dedicated to agriculture producing excellent oil, fruit, honey and wine. Suitable for families with children, young people, couples or groups of friends, it offers its visitors a holiday in Greece marked by beautiful beaches (there are more than sixty), fun but also relaxation and close contact with nature, ancient churches to visit and picturesque villages to discover.
Predominantly wooded, the strong point of the island and the main reason for choosing a holiday in Skiathos are undoubtedly its beaches. The most sought after and also crowded especially in the summer period but which is still worth a visit is the Koukounaries beach also called Golden Beach a coastline of fine gold-colored sand bathed by crystal clear emerald waters. But there are many just as beautiful and we challenge you to be able to see them all!
Do not miss the capital Skiathos Town with its lively nightlife that every year attracts young and old for crazy evenings of fun until the first light of the sun, and still the Bourtzi Peninsula where Mother Nature has given a rich vegetation as well as ruins of the Venetian fortress one of the most romantic places of Skiathos where the panorama will enchant you.
Curiosity, the first flag of Greece was created in Skiathos.
Reaching Skiathos is not difficult, it is part of one of the few Greek islands with an international airport. There are two ways to get there, either by air or by sea.
Flight: from Italy and also from all over Europe in the summer period there are routes that lead directly to Skiathos.
If you want to come out of season or even just for an economic factor, there is the possibility of flying to Athens and from there taking an internal flight.
It is also possible to reach Skiathos from Thessaloniki but you have to combine a bus route to Volos + ferry.
Ship: if you also like the travel part then you could opt for this solution, certainly longer but which however will also allow you to enjoy the mainland. Then arrival in Athens, rent a car or take the bus and reach Agios Konstantinos where then embark. Be careful if you decide to use public transport, from Athens airport you need to reach the Ktel Liosion station and from there take the bus to the port.
