Karapthos Island also called Scarpanto is the third largest of the twelve Dodecanese Islands and we find it exactly between Rhodes and Crete.
Of a shocking beauty, we can say that it has one of the most beautiful seas in the whole Aegean but on the contrary at times it can be just a little windy so if you are not a fan of Aeolus, look for another destination for your holiday in Greece. But when there is flat calm well, seeing is believing!
Although it is very well known and in recent years taken by storm especially by the Italian people, it still remains uncontaminated and wild where traditions, uses and customs are still very rooted and can be breathed everywhere.
High mountains, wooded areas rich in luxuriant vegetation, enchanting beaches with crystal clear waters and colors that change from blue to turquoise to emerald, place where according to myths lived the king of the Titans Lapetos and where Athena was born. Archaeological sites that bear witness to the ancient origins of Karpathos, mountain villages such as the famous Olympos, stuck in the mountain and with an enchanted charm called the “Women’s village” who still wear traditional hand-embroidered clothes to this day, and still small coves that offer dream coasts and seaside towns where you can find all sorts of comforts.
Describing the island of Karpathos is really difficult it is too beautiful and words cannot in the least express such magnificence.
Reaching Karpathos is not difficult, the only negative thing is that there are very few direct flights from Italy, in 2021 there was only one airline that made the route, let’s hope that for holidays in Greece 2022 there will be more’ generous.
Flight: always in the hope that more routes will be added, usually there is always Neos flying to Karpathos at least once a week in the summer.
Flight + Domestic Flight: From Rhodes and Crete from both Heraklion or Chania airports
Flight + Ferry: many opt for this solution which is longer and perhaps a little more expensive but guarantees the possibility of getting there for sure and not only during the high season. You can fly to Rhodes in Crete or Athens and then take a ship from there. Here are the details:
Rhodes – Karpathos journey time 5 hours and 40 minutes
Crete Sitia – Karpathos journey time 4 and a half hours.
Crete Heraklion – Karpathos journey time 7 hours.
Piraeus – Karpathos journey time about 20 hours.
