Karpathos Island extends for about 325 square kilometers and is 50 long and 3 up to 11 square kilometers wide.
Mountainous, barren and harsh but with a gentle soul, where the inhabitants will be happy to have a chat with you and give you all the best advice on how to experience this wonderful island perfect for a holiday in Greece based on unspoilt and intact nature. excursions to discover hidden corners, walks through the woods to reach breathtaking views and beaches that you will hardly forget.
Karapathos is the classic Greek island that gets inside people so much so that there are many travelers who return year after year because they can’t live without it.
Nothing is bad in Karpathos, perhaps the only not exactly positive note is linked to the fact that being lost in the middle of the Aegean, especially in July and August, it is beaten by the Meltemi, the fresh north wind that blows over all of Greece and sometimes makes living together a little difficult, but as we say there is always a solution, either go to the opposite side from where Eolo has decided to disturb or take advantage of these days to discover the beautiful villages where you will find a purely rural atmosphere made up of simple and genuine things. Do you want to have a succulent lunch in one of the typical taverns perhaps with a breathtaking view?
Getting around Karpathos is not difficult and you can choose according to your tastes, your spirit of adventure and obviously your budget.
According to our point of view, the most comfortable means of transport, whether for the wind, for the roads in the mountains, or even just for a safety factor, is without a doubt the car. There are many renters on the island who offer excellent cars complete with assistance and insurance, the only thing, as always, is to do it well in advance to be able to find the vehicle first, and then to get a better price for sure. Have it delivered and returned to you at the airport in this way you will save the taxi to get to your destination and you will be much more free to manage your time.
For lovers of two wheels, on the other hand, we recommend first of all a cylinder capacity no lower than a 150 cc because some climbs are really steep and a scooter struggles, taking away so much precious time to dedicate to discovering Karpathos. Also bearing in mind that the wind often doesn’t help and some gusts can be dangerous so opt for the scooter only if you are used to it otherwise think about it.
Even the inevitable taxis are an excellent alternative, the only problem is that there are few of them and the routes, especially if you want to go from north to south, are very expensive. It is always better to rent a car even for just a few days or share the vehicle with some other tourist who has your destination.
