The multifaceted Milos Island offers its visitors beautiful beaches that are hardly found in other Greek islands.
Today we want to introduce you to Gerontas beach, not very popular and above all not besieged by mass tourism. We find it in the southwestern part of the island near the mining company that extracts pozzolan, a particular volcanic rock used mainly in construction. A real jewel of Mother Nature, hidden in a small bay has a tiny shoreline of silver gray sand mixed with some pebbles, transparent, crystalline waters and a cyan-colored sea between blue and green, a very particular.
Framed by majestic and spectacular white rocks on the right side you can admire a natural arch shaped by atmospheric events while, on the left, some caves and inlets to be explored with fins, mask and snorkel. If you are a snorkel lover, Gerontas beach is the right place to discover the wonders of the abyss and capture breathtaking scenery. So don’t forget to bring an underwater camera!
Being remote and not easy to reach, Gerontas beach is obviously not equipped. Here no umbrellas, sunbeds or kiosks just a wild and original nature. If you are looking for some shade, it would be better to come in the morning as the position of the cliffs shelter the beach for a few hours for the rest, you will be kissed by the warm rays of the sun. Not being equipped with comforts, if during your holiday in Milos you decide to spend a day there, remember to bring water, food, something to shelter you in the hottest hours and lots of sunscreen.
And here comes the beauty … As we mentioned before, the Gerontas Beach is never besieged by tourists because getting there is a bit challenging but certainly manageable.
Southwest direction of the island through roads let’s face it even at times a little rough but the scenery of the landscape is already a good reward. Take the road that leads to Achivadolimi and then Provatas. As soon as you pass Provatas you will find a dirt path that will take you to the quarry (in this regard we must warn you that any hirer in case you have any problems in the roads not marked on the map and not asphalted will give you assistance but it will all be paid) up to a parking where you will have to leave your vehicle to continue on foot.
At this point, follow the path that crosses the slightly sloping quarry so not suitable for small children or those with mobility problems until you arrive right above the cove where the view is superb, you will see the beach below you that we are sure you will find. it will make the heart leap for its beauty. Finally, go down until you reach it and treat yourself to a magnificent stop in the middle of nowhere. Journey time based on your pace from ten to twenty minutes.
As in all things, there is also a less strenuous way to get to Gerontas beach, and it is by sea. Throughout the island there are agencies that organize day trips that will also take you to other amazing areas that can only be reached by boat.
There is not much to tell about Gerontas beach, only a visit and the close contact with Nature will make you understand what you could miss if you do not put it among the things to see in Milos, so plan an inspection, it will be a pleasant one. discovery and a beautiful memory of your holidays in Greece.
