Ftelia Beach is located in the northern part of the island about six kilometers from Mykonos Town and two and a half kilometers from the peaceful Ano Mera village.
A beautiful crescent shaped bay, one of the wildest in Mykonos where the Meltemi, the warm dry Greek wind that blows from the north north east here has found its home as it often makes itself heard.
Six hundred meters long and almost seventy wide, it has a coast of fine clear sand mixed with pebbles bathed by a turquoise blue sea that is never flat but for this reason a paradise for surf and kitesurf lovers.
A beach where there are no places for fun where to party until the first light of the sun but where you come to admire the nature that is still intact and unspoiled, to play sports or to stay truly peaceful.
Being beaten by the wind it is never overcrowded and on days where the Meltemi is forgiving it is very pleasant to spend some time in peace enjoying the landscape. It is divided in two by a small rocky promontory and in the western part there is a restaurant bar with a nice sea view with a friendly atmosphere where you can eat or drink something spread out on large and soft cushions and rent sunbeds and umbrellas if you want to stop for the day. In the east part the beach is free, extremely wild and almost always semi deserted, a real corner of paradise outside the usual routine of the Mykonos island.
A couple of kilometers towards the hinterland the particular Ano Mera village where you can end your day in style, perhaps stopping for dinner in typical Greek cuisine taverns.
Ftelia beach, in the seventies was a place much loved by hippies who settled for a long time living life according to the rules of movement and today that air is still breathed, everything flows slowly and with the natural evolution of things, nothing is artificial, in fact the movida here ‘don’t even know what it means.
Above the promontory during excavations in the nineties, finds of a settlement from the Neolithic period came to light which unfortunately are no longer visible today. The beautiful bay about four kilometers inland looks like a classic fjord covered with wild grasslands.
As we mentioned, Ftelia beach is the realm lovers of sports such as surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing and when the natural element of the wind hurls over the bay, it is not difficult to witness real ballets on the water of boards and men who try to conquer and dominate Mother Nature by giving an exciting show. There are no schools or points for renting equipment, in fact only true professionals can ride the waves in this stretch of sea.
Aime to get there you need to have your own vehicle because there are no buses. Follow the road towards Ano Mera or the road signs. A convenient parking is located near the restaurant.
Certainly for a period of peace to escape the frenetic and chaotic rhythm that the Mykonos island usually offers its guests where to regenerate mind and body forgetting the present. To be added to the list of things to see in Mykonos just for a break.
