Fourka Beach Chalkidki Peninsula

Also in the southwestern part of Kassandra, the first phalanx of the beautiful Chalkidiki Peninsula, we find the Fourka Beach also called Skala Fourkas. Thessaloniki, the point where you arrive to reach this wonderful corner of Greece about a hundred kilometers to the north.

The Fourka beach, a couple of kilometers and a half long, has a coastline of soft white sand, warm, calm and extremely clean waters, an intense blue sea with a bottom that descends slowly and for the first stretch of rocks flat and then move on to the sand creating shallows.

It is very equipped, here there is no shortage of sunbeds, umbrellas, a lifeguard who watches over the safety of guests, a choice of typical taverns where you can taste succulent dishes of fresh fish and seafood rather than the classic recipes of Greek cuisine, restaurants, cafes where relax in front of a coffee or a cool drink, some minimarkets for DIY lovers and shops where you can find the perfect souvenir in memory of a holiday in the Chalkidiki Peninsula. Absolutely not to be missed is the sunset given the optimal position that colors the sky with shades ranging from red to orange to purple.

Given all the excellent comforts it offers and the natural beauty of the beach, every year it is awarded the Blue Flag and also for this reason during the summer it attracts tourists from all parts of Kassandra, maybe even just for a day. Having said that, however, since the coast is quite wide, it is difficult to find one another on top of the other, but it is still possible to enjoy tranquility and an excellent sea.

Near the Fourka Beach there is also a small marina where local fishing boats dock and where you can also find excellent fresh fish. If the Skala Fourka beach seems too crowded, just move four kilometers north, where you will find another charming cove that is home to the Agios Nikolaos Fourka beach. Surrounded by lush vegetation, it too has a small beach of light sand with a blue-green sea.

So let’s say that the Fourka area is divided into two parts, the coastal area where the beach is located with its large square with all the amenities and the ancient village in the hinterland towards the mountain where the view is wonderful. A visit to the old Fourka village which is located above the rolling hills that embrace the area about a couple of kilometers away from the beach is a must. From the remote origins we speak of the Byzantine and Roman period as evidenced by the finds found in the ruins of the Temple of Agios Ioannis and to an inscription in the church of the cemetery of Sant’Atanasio, it is precisely the classic village made of stone houses and small churches with its labyrinthine alleys adorned with colorful flower trees. Like a tender embrace, the town is surrounded by pine forests with pines and olive groves that make the landscape almost like a small Eden. There is no shortage of traditional taverns, bars where you can pass the time without looking at the clock and local craft shops. The Fourka village also boasts a very lively cultural association that organizes several events suitable for all ages such as the Agia Marina festival on July 16th.

How to get to Fourka Beach

Head south west to the main road and follow the road signs to Fourka all here.

It would be better to have your own vehicle (perhaps taking the car directly from Thessaloniki airport also because the transfers cost almost as much as the weekly rental of a car if you want something private) so you can also move and explore the entire Chalkidiki Peninsula.

The alternative is to rely on public bus rides that depart from the major tourist resorts, bearing in mind to consult the timetables in order to better organize your trip out of town.

Between sea and mountains it can be a good alternative to a full day at sea, thus giving you the opportunity to explore and learn about the area made up of continuous changes and also interesting from a historical point of view.

Mark the Fourka beach and its village among the things to see in the Halkidiki Peninsula, it will be a very pleasant diversion.
