Living in Kos , I am always looking for new and characteristic places where I can delight my taste buds and recommend them to my guests. I think these are four taverns where the value for money is excellent and you can still breathe the “Greek tradition”.
TAVERNA KAZINO tel. + 30694618859
It is located in Lagoudi on the hilly part of kos, a real gastronomic paradise. In addition to the splendid view, you can enjoy typical Greek home-made specialties still with the flavors of the past (I really liked the roast lamb with potatoes). Council to always call if you are not right in full season because the owner when he decides to go on vacation goes there without saying anything to anyone …. (a Great !!!!)
NIOTIS tel. +306947738060
Another unusual but very characteristic place is the Taverna da Niotis in the old Kefalos village. Here you can have a good meal and relax afterwards in one of the beautiful beaches in the area. The menu varies from day to day as Mrs Niotis cooks for her family and for those who want to stop for lunch or dinner. Typical Greek dishes such as the delicious moussaka, the fried zucchini balls and lots of delicacies that will make you feel real “Greeks”. A traditional and genuine menu at a fixed price ranging from € 25 to € 30 per person.
AGIOS THEOLOGOS tel. +306974503556 or mail agtheol@otonet.gr
Third place I recommend is Agios Theologos Restaurant, located in the Agios Theologos bay, the most extreme part in the south of the island. A delightful veranda overlooking the sea where you can eat fresh fish with a breathtaking view. It is advisable to go to the most beautiful time at sunset to enjoy the place. Perhaps a little more expensive than the previous two but believe me only the road to get there that passes in the middle of the island and the natural beauty of the place is worth it.
KARNAGIO– 6 km Kos-Tigaki (take the old road from Kos to Tigaki) tel. + 306956582685
Last but not least is Karnagio Taverna. A place that we really like to escape the Kos Town frenzy . It is located on the old road that connects Kos Town to Tigaki and believe me it is a real paradise. Nikos Pastrikos, the owner of a Greek Australian family, has been running this delightful seaside spot for seven years along with his family and serves classic Greek delicacies cooked by his wife, such as the freshly made moussaka, a delicious Greek salad, the caper salad that I can only find here (capers are whole with leaves and stem), very fresh grilled fish and all the other dishes found in this area. In short, a real delight for the palate! The tavern is open every day from 9.30 am to 9.30 pm in the evening. Usually you can find a place (because few know it), but in the months like July and August we advise you to book especially if you are a company. The prices in my opinion are very honest if we also consider the quality of the food.
