Fatourena Beach Milos

Fatourena beach, we find it in the north-west part of Milos Island in the large bay of Ormos Milou near the Rivari lagoon just one kilometer away. The Embourios village a typical fishing village that offers taverns that always serve the freshest fish is less than ten kilometers away.

Enclosed in a natural marine reserve that is located on one of the main migratory routes of birds, it has a dark sand coast that reminds us of the volcanic origins of Milos mixed with small stones, clean and clear waters, a sea that passes by ‘azure to turquoise to blue and shallow waters.

Fatorena beach is a place of extraordinary and uncontaminated nature, there is nothing only Mediterranean scrub that grows spontaneously. Being a reserve there is no trace of comfort, if you decide to spend a day there during your holiday in Milos, remember to bring water, food and something to shelter you from the sun’s rays during the hottest hours.

Some rock formations and some points where the depth of the water increases considerably, are characteristics that attract snorkelling and diving lovers who can have fun discovering the underwater world.

On the hills surrounding the whole area is the old church of Agia Marina dating back to 1616 which from 1650 until 1830 was a very important monastery. The classic Orthodox place of worship totally whitewashed with its large dome, which dominates the bay like a lookout. The view of the landscape from here is very exciting, sweeping over the sea and the surrounding area to reach the capital Plaka.

As we anticipated before, near the Fatourena beach, there is also the Rivari beach where the lagoon is formed which is home to many species of birds during the migration period. On the outside it forms a long and narrow strip of sand and gravel where you can find low-growing trees that give some shade. Here too no modernity only primitive nature.

Given their position, both coasts are excellent alternatives on windy days as they are very sheltered from the bay, thus allowing you to spend hours in total relaxation. In fact, those who go to this part of Milos Island are mainly travelers looking for peace and silence, obviously giving up the comforts that an equipped beach can offer, but it does not matter, the whole area is very interesting to visit. it will give a completely different glimpse of Milos where simplicity and direct contact with our Mother Earth will be a sure added value to your holidays.

How to reach Fatourena Beach and Rivari Beach

As always, especially in Milos, it would be better to have your own vehicle because in some remote areas or at least, areas with no particular tourist turnout, the public service is very scarce or totally non-existent.

Wherever you decide to stay, follow the coastal road around the Milos bay until you reach the signs that indicate Embourios where you will find the church of Agia Marina and you will meet a crossroads with a road that goes down to the sea, follow it and you will be there.

Put them among the things to see in Milos, it will be a day out of the ordinary but that will enrich you in the knowledge of this multifaceted and wonderful island.

We thank very much http://milos-greece.com/en/index.html who gave us a photo of him from the beach.
