The Diaporos island is part of the small but extraordinary archipelago called Vourvourounissa just opposite the village of Vourvourou on the Sithonia peninsula on the east side.
A bay with natural beauties impossible to explain, trees that reach the blue waters of the sea that host a fascinating underwater world, postcard beaches where you will feel like you are in the Eden of Adam and Eve such is its magnificence, and waters always calm and warm. A large natural gulf called Kryftos seven hundred meters long where ruins of the temple of Agios Andreas dating back to the Byzantine period and a Christian cemetery of 540 AD destroyed by the Huns during their invasion were found, testifying the long history of this beautiful place.
The other islands that make up this wonderful set of emerged lands are Kalogria, Ambelisti, Kalamonisia, Prassonisi, Peristero and Agios Isodoros.
But today we want to concentrate and introduce you to the island of Diaporos better. A portion of land emerging from the Aegean Sea of about three and a half square kilometers very close to the coast that almost seems possible to touch it, a paradise of spectacular rocks and bays where only a few private villas (lucky them …) and a super hotel luxurious are present, a tropical scenery where only palm trees are missing.
There are agencies that organize tours to the islets but in our experience it is much better to rent a boat and do everything independently. There are many companies that rent motor boats of various displacements for a whole day or several days even without a license. They are usually not fast boats (it always depends on which one you choose) that will guarantee you a quiet day in the middle of the sea. If you do it yourself, remember to bring enough water and food and above all book well in advance because especially in high season it is difficult to find free from one day to the next. You will be given a map where promontories or shoals are marked so as to avoid them and not ruin your trip.
Myrsini beach is not to be missed. A gem kept on the east side between Diaporos and the island of Agios Isodoros created by the convergence of the two islands. Also called White Beach or Hawai for its sand that looks almost talcum powder and blue blue water that seems not colored by Mother Nature but by something artificial it is so beautiful. The locals have nicknamed it the Blue Lagoon and you will only realize it when you arrive and you will let yourself be conquered by just a simple bathroom. The seabed is of rocks and shells with a very lively marine life to observe.
The only solution is by sea with a boat. You can join the day trips that are offered almost everywhere in Vourvourou, or rent a boat in private, do not worry they are not exaggerated costs if you are satisfied with a boat with 15/25 horses we are about € 50/60 per day from 10.00 to 18.00 usually + fuel, or if you are a sportsman paddling with your own canoe in the calm waters of the archipelago.
An experience to mark on the list of things to do in Sithonia to discover landscapes with an exotic flavor and take a bath in one of the most beautiful and cleanest parts of Greece.
