Baxedes Beach Santorini

Baxedes beach also called Paradisos beach, we find it in the north east part of the beautiful Santorini Island about three kilometers from the spectacular Oia Village where you can see one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. The capital Fira is about thirteen kilometers away while to the west we find Capo Mavropetra.

The coast in this part of the island is a succession of splendid coasts that do not interrupt each other, they are one after the other like the famous Capo Colombo Beach for naturists, one of the most secret and secluded of Santorini much appreciated by those who want to stay as a mother did it without disturbing anyone and also known above all for its underwater volcano with a crater that reaches one kilometer in width still active today but do not be afraid it is 500 meters deep.

A wide coastline over a kilometer long of sand mixed with black pebbles given its volcanic origin, with a large cliff behind that in the afternoon casts the sand in the shade, clean and crystalline waters, an intense blue sea typical of the color that you will find in Santorini and a sandy and shallow seabed for the first few meters, an exceptional phenomenon for the island since it was formed by an underwater volcano, therefore perfect for families with children who, however, we always recommend to keep under control because the Aegean here is a in a bit more unpredictable than in the rest of the Greek Islands.

The beach is partly equipped with sun beds and umbrellas in one row, a toilet and a small kiosk where you can find something fresh to drink and quick to eat. If you really want to be comfortable and have a full meal just move from the beach towards the slope and you will find several taverns where you can sit and enjoy dishes based on fresh products of classic Greek and local cuisine.

Baxedes beach must be said that due to its position it is almost always beaten by the Meltemi wind but when Aeolus sleeps, it is a true oasis of relaxation with a magnificent natural setting. It is not very popular as it does not offer much but it is far from the mass tourism circuit and therefore ideal for a day in complete tranquility.

Its name derives from a Turkish word “Baxes” which means garden. This name comes from the fact that the inhabitants were devoted to the cultivation of vegetables so as to make the area look like a real vegetable garden.

For a moment of pause, you can take advantage and go to visit the characteristic Oia village, perched on the cliff where you can discover the ancient Venetian fortress, the Maritime Museum and enjoy the splendid view of the imposing caldera symbol of the Santorini Island as well as on particularly terse also the neighboring islands such as the Ios Island or the Sikinos Island. For wine lovers, it is possible to make a small detour and go to the Sigalas cellar for a tasting accompanied by typical cheeses, hams and a chat that never hurts.

How to get to Baxedes Beach

It is very simple, you have to take a north-east direction and follow the road signs, it is impossible not to find it.

The most convenient way is undoubtedly with your own rental vehicle which you can then leave in the free parking area above the beach.

For those who are not autonomous, there is always the public bus that leaves from Oia and stops all along the coast.A destination to be marked among the things to see in Santorini for a day of sea and complete idleness.
