Agios Dimitrios Beach, we find it in the north east of Alonissos Island about twenty kilometers from Patitiri.
Considered one of the best coasts and included in the list of beaches with the clearest waters in Greece and in the world, it is certainly the perfect place for a beautiful sunny day to relax and take long swims.
In the shape of a horseshoe, it has a beach of small white pebbles bathed by a sea with colors that go from blue to turquoise with calm and extremely transparent waters, which together with the natural context give Agios Dimitrios a magical and almost Caribbean. No less important is the fact that the seabed drops slowly, thus becoming an outdoor playground for the little ones. Its name comes from an ancient monastery which was unfortunately completely destroyed during the period in which the pirates sailed the waters of the Aegean Sea and went as far as the Sporades archipelago.
We recommend the southern part of the beach, where you can find sun loungers and umbrellas for around € 6 per day, while for those who love to stay in close contact with Mother Nature, the northern part is undoubtedly the best side to fully immerse themselves in tranquility. For snorkelers, Agios Dimitrios is a paradise, the water is so clear and clean that the mask is sometimes not even necessary to admire the flora and fish fauna. A canteen bar is there for a cool drink and for when the peckishness of the stomach rises.
Although it is one of the most sought after, it is difficult to find the usual overcrowding even in high season, thanks to its size and also from the fact that it is among the most distant we are talking about an hour of travel in case you have decided to stay for your holidays in Alonissos in Patitiri just to give you an example. However, if you do not have great needs, the area has developed a lot in recent years, giving life to accommodation facilities with fantastic views of the sea from the comfort of your balcony, especially at sunset when sky and sea take on crazy color shades.
Nearby is the Steni Vala village, a typical fishing village with taverns where you can always taste the freshest fish and specialize in seafood. From here with a water taxi it is possible to reach Agios Dimitrios beach, thus combining a good meal with a relaxing nap and finally a nice swim.
Before arriving in Steni Vala we also meet the Kalamakia village, a quiet place where fishing is still the primary livelihood and where even here you can find typical taverns and delight the taste buds with lobsters and catch of the day.
If you have decided for a rental vehicle that is a car or scooter, just head north east through sometimes dirt roads (this is also the beauty of Greece). For the timing it depends on where you will stay from Patitiri for example it is an hour and a quarter.
For those who prefer to discover the island by public transport always from the capital Patitiri, there are buses that connect Agios Dimitrios also passing through Steni Vala (the cost of the ticket is around € 10 per person round trip). Wanting from Steni Vala, you can find water taxis a nice alternative to try.
In conclusion, as always, describing a place in words becomes very difficult especially if we are talking about truly beautiful and particular areas, you must necessarily see them with your own eyes to have the correct perception, so 'do not forget to include among the things to see in Alonissos Agios Dimitrios beach, it will be a pleasant day to keep tightly in the trunk of memories.
