The Afandou beach, we find it in the southeast part of the Rhodes island about twenty-two kilometers from Rhodes Town.
Afandou is considered to be one of the oldest villages on the Rhodes island. The meaning of Afandou is “hidden” and the name comes from the fact that it is located in a part where it is impossible to see it from the sea which has preserved it in ancient times from the attacks of pirates who sailed in the Aegean Sea.
It is a very wide and long beach with a coastline with pebbles and soft sand, bathed by a transparent and blue sea. The seabed immediately becomes deep so be careful if you have small children or you are not swimmers.
It is partly equipped with kiosks for something to drink or eat quickly, water sports equipment such as windusrf, jet skis, banana boats, sunbeds and umbrellas, and there are also taverns where you can enjoy excellent food of the Greek culinary tradition. A part is completely free and consequently much more peaceful and relaxing, but remember to bring everything you need if you decide to spend the day in this area. Also ideal for snorkelers due to the lively marine life.
The nearby village, however, offers all the possible comforts and also a wide choice of accommodation such as hotels, apartments, guest houses where you can spend a nice holiday.
Near the beach, there is also the Afandou Golf Course in Rhodes, an 18 hole course and 73 professional courses highly appreciated by the players of this sport who come in large numbers every year.
Again it is really very easy, just follow the signs marked for the village.
If you want a beach not taken by storm by tourists where chaos is banned and where instead you can fully enjoy the beauty of the sea, Afandou beach is definitely for you, so don’t forget to put it in things to do in Rhodes.
