Choosing Greece means embarking on a journey through centuries of history, breathtaking landscapes, and traditions handed down from generation to generation. If Athens is the cultural and historical heart, the Peloponnese is the wild and authentic soul of the country a mosaic of nature and myths. Traveling through this region means living a slower experience, made of stunning views and genuine hospitality, far from mass tourism.
In this itinerary, i will take you to discover three unmissable gems:
Best time to visit: late spring – late summer – autumn
Trip duration: at least 10 days
Cost: from €1200 per person (flight, accommodation, car rental)
A small island with a fascinating, winding landscape perfect for an escape in early June or after mid-September, ideal periods to enjoy it in its natural simplicity. The name “Elafonissos” literally means “island of the deer” (from elafi, meaning “deer” in Greek), likely due to the animals that once inhabited it.
It is famous for its paradisiacal beaches with white sand and turquoise waters, often compared to the Caribbean. Here, nature remains untouched, offering postcard-perfect panoramas that leave visitors breathless.

Monemvasia is one of Greece’s most evocative towns, built on a massive rock connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway. Known as the “Greek Gibraltar,” its dramatic cliffs rise above the sea. Approaching the island, Monemvasia appears hidden protected by medieval walls and frozen in time.
Founded in the 6th century AD, it became an important Byzantine stronghold and a key trading post in the eastern Mediterranean. Today, wandering through the cobbled alleys of the old town, you’ll find stone houses, Byzantine churches, and Venetian mansions perfectly preserved.
It’s a catapult into the past, where sacred and profane, myth and history blend seamlessly.

The Mani Peninsula is one of Greece’s most untamed and fascinating regions. Located in the southern Peloponnese, it’s a rugged land of rocky mountains, ancient olive groves, and stone towers guarding its villages. The atmosphere is that of an ancient, mysterious land.
Historically, Mani was an autonomous region inhabited by the proud and fierce Maniots, who resisted Ottoman rule for centuries. The stone towers, still visible in villages like Vathia, served as both homes and fortresses during clan feuds.
According to Greek mythology, the entrance to Hades, the underworld, was said to be near the Cape Tainaron Cave, located here.
Things to see and do in the Mani Peninsula

A journey through Elafonissos, Monemvasia, and the Mani Peninsula is not just a vacation it’s an immersive experience. It means discovering an authentic Greece made of crystal-clear seas, medieval villages, stone towers, and timeless legends.
