Which Greek Island Should You Choose in 2027

Greece is so much more than crystal-clear waters, whitewashed houses and sunsets that leave you speechless. It is a world filled with countless experiences, each wonderfully different from the next. Coastal and inland villages where time seems to stand still, hidden beaches and others that proudly reveal all their natural beauty, ancient celebrations and traditions passed down through generations, and tavernas where forgotten flavours come back to life and an ordinary dinner can turn into one of the most beautiful and meaningful memories of your holiday.

So, which Greek island should you choose for your 2027 holiday?

Good question! One thing is certain: there really is something for everyone. For those who love spending long, lazy days on the beach, for curious travellers who want to explore every corner, for those who dream of romance and complete relaxation, and for those who simply cannot imagine a holiday without nightlife, a lively atmosphere and a seaside aperitif.

And this is exactly where Meravigliose Isole Greche comes in.

We have been living in this wonderful country for fourteen years now, and we know just how different a holiday on one island can be from a holiday on another. Our mission is not simply to suggest a famous destination, but rather to understand, together with you, what you are looking for and which island truly reflects your way of travelling.

Because, let’s face it, choosing the right island means knowing where to stay, which beaches to visit, how to get around and, above all, avoiding a destination that may be absolutely beautiful but simply isn’t what you were looking for.

To give you a few ideas, we have selected 7 islands worth considering for summer 2027, keeping families, older travellers, solo adventurers and groups of friends in mind, so that everyone can find their perfect match.

This is not a ranking, just a little inspiration to help you decide which island could be the setting for your next well-deserved holiday.

1. Kos: the island where every day brings a different holiday experience

Dodecanese · Southeastern Aegean Sea · GPS: 36.8930° N, 27.2880° E

Although Kos is often underestimated and overlooked, I personally believe it is one of the few islands capable of satisfying every type of traveller. First of all, it isn’t too big, it has countless kilometres of wonderful beaches, archaeological sites wherever you turn, villages where time seems to have stood still and evening entertainment for all ages. These are the qualities that make Kos special: a complete island that never forces you to choose between relaxation and fun. You wake up and decide what you feel like doing, without too much planning or stress… what more could you ask for?

Its landscape changes from long sandy beaches and coastal plains to mountainous areas, with Mount Dikeos (846 metres) as its highest peak and the wonderful village of Zia, where you can enjoy a spectacular sunset. To the south, in the area known as Kefalos (meaning brain in Greek, as Kos is said to resemble the shape of a goat, with Kefalos representing its head), you will find some of the island’s most beautiful beaches from a naturalistic point of view. If you love endless stretches of sand and shallow waters, the areas of Tigaki and Marmari are just right for you. And for a little pampering, what could be better than the natural thermal springs of Emborios? Perfect for a romantic evening, or even better, late at night.

Who do we recommend our beloved Kos to? Definitely families, because neither teenagers nor younger children will ever get bored here. Couples looking for a romantic holiday filled with breathtaking sunsets and candlelit dinners by the sea. Groups of friends who enjoy exciting excursions and lively evenings. But also solo travellers and older visitors, as there are so many activities to enjoy and even more hidden corners to discover. And everything is within easy reach, without the need for long, tiring journeys.

Our advice: don’t choose your accommodation based on photographs alone. Kos has many different faces and changes considerably from one area to another. First, think about the kind of holiday you want, and then decide where to stay.

2. Naxos: endless beaches, traditional villages and a Greece that steals your heart

Cyclades · Central Aegean Sea · GPS: 37.1036° N, 25.3764° E

If your dream holiday involves endless golden beaches, little villages with whitewashed houses and blue windows, and traditional tavernas where you can savour authentic local dishes, then Naxos might pleasantly surprise you.

Naxos is the largest island in the Cyclades archipelago and offers an incredibly varied landscape. From green plains to mountains, olive groves and kilometre after kilometre of coastline. Without a doubt, Agia Anna, Plaka Beach and Agios Prokopios are among the most popular and best-loved beaches, while inland villages such as Apeiranthos and Halki are little treasures that reveal a genuine Greece rich in folklore and tradition.

In the evening, Chora becomes a wonderful spectacle, with narrow streets bustling with people, delightful shops, traditional and sophisticated tavernas, and the majestic, famous Portara standing proudly against the changing colours of the sky.

Who do we recommend it to? Naxos is an excellent choice for families, whether travelling with young children or teenagers, as there is something to keep everyone happy. It is also ideal for couples of all ages who want more than just romance from their holiday. Groups of friends will appreciate the beautiful sea and lively atmosphere. Solo travellers can fill their days exploring the coastline and inland villages, while older visitors can easily enjoy the beaches and pleasant walks.

Our advice: Naxos really does have everything you could want from a holiday! Rent a vehicle so you can experience the island to the fullest and discover its most authentic side.

3. Milos: incredible landscapes and a sea that almost seems unreal

Western Cyclades · Aegean Sea · GPS: 36.7270° N, 24.4440° E

One of the most extraordinary islands in Greece, Milos is a destination you choose precisely because it is different and unique. Here, we can safely say that Mother Nature has truly outdone herself and must have had an incredible amount of fun creating these spectacular landscapes.

Of volcanic origin, unlike its sister islands, Milos boasts dazzling white cliffs, rocks in an astonishing variety of colours, hidden little bays and rugged coastlines. Sarakiniko, a place where you feel as though you have landed on the moon, is one of the most photographed and iconic spots on Milos. But Paleochori, Firiplaka and Kleftiko are equally deserving of a visit.

And what about its villages? Klima is so picturesque that it looks as though it has stepped straight out of a postcard, with its colourful little houses standing right at the water’s edge. Then there are Plaka and Pollonia, charming little paradises just waiting to be discovered.

Who do we recommend it to? Definitely couples, because romance seems to fill every corner of this island. Solo travellers who love exploring, and groups of friends passionate about photography and the sea. I would also recommend Milos to families, but preferably those travelling with teenagers, rather than very young children. For older visitors, I would suggest it only if they have no significant mobility difficulties, as access to certain places can be quite demanding.

Our advice: remember that many of the wonderful beaches and breathtaking places you simply cannot miss are not accessible by land. Make sure you organise at least one boat excursion to reach some truly extraordinary corners of the island.

4. Rhodes: a holiday without compromises between sea, history and entertainment

Dodecanese · Southeastern Aegean Sea · GPS: 36.4341° N, 28.2176° E

Here is an island that rarely leaves its visitors disappointed or wondering whether they made the right choice. In Rhodes, you can alternate days at the beach with cultural discoveries and plenty of fun.

One of the largest Greek islands, Rhodes is mainly hilly and mountainous, but it also features green valleys and refreshing pine forests along the coast. On the eastern side, you will find numerous beaches sheltered from the wind and equipped with every comfort. The western coast, on the other hand, is more exposed to the winds and has become a paradise for sports where Aeolus, the god of wind, plays an essential role.

The Old Town is an almost mystical experience, especially in the evening, when wandering through its narrow streets makes you feel as though the ghost of an ancient knight might suddenly appear around the corner. Then there is the whitewashed village of Lindos, overlooking its magnificent bay, with its Acropolis rising high above the gulf.

And there is more: the beautiful Anthony Quinn Bay, Tsambika Beach and Prasonisi, where the Aegean meets the Mediterranean. And what about the castles? There are quite a few, each with its own special charm. Finally, the Valley of the Butterflies, one of the island’s most visited attractions, where millions of these fascinating little creatures gather during the summer to reproduce.

Who do we recommend it to? Certainly families with young children, teenagers or adult children. Groups of friends looking for an end-of-school holiday, with Faliraki and Rhodes Town being perfect choices. Older travellers who want to combine their love of the sea with a passion for archaeology. Rhodes is also ideal for solo travellers, because here too, the chances of getting bored are practically zero!

Our advice: Rhodes is a large island, and having your own transport is essential if you want to discover even part of it. Choosing the right area to stay should be your first priority (but I can take care of that for you, just send me your enquiry), especially if you want to avoid spending too many hours travelling to the places you plan to visit.

5. Paros: seaside nightlife, Cycladic atmosphere and picture-perfect villages.

Central Cyclades · Aegean Sea · GPS: 37.0856° N, 25.1481° E

Paros is the right island for those who want to be seduced by the charm of the Cyclades without giving up a lively and entertaining holiday.

An island of gentle ups and downs, with rolling hills, higher elevations in the centre, fertile valleys and countless sandy bays. Naoussa is chic and charming, with its picturesque harbour, little restaurants and seaside tavernas. Parikia, on the other hand, retains its deeply rooted traditional atmosphere, while Lefkes enchants visitors with its colourful bougainvillea and whitewashed alleyways.

And the beaches? Each one seems more beautiful than the last. Kolymbithres, with its extraordinary rock formations creating enchanting little coves, Golden Beach, whose name really says it all, and Santa Maria Beach, where you can enjoy water sports or simply laze beneath the warm Greek sun.

Who do we recommend it to? Couples, whether newly together or long-established, looking to discover or rediscover each other. Groups of friends who enjoy lively evenings. Solo travellers ready to open their hearts and perhaps meet someone with whom to share a wonderful experience. Families, as children can have plenty of fun in complete safety. And older visitors, although I would recommend choosing an area with good facilities and avoiding places with too many steps or steep uphill streets.

Our advice: pay attention to the period you choose for your visit. In summer, Paros is absolutely packed and extremely lively. If you are looking for relaxation and tranquillity, choose a village further inland.

6. Kefalonia: romantic harbours and lush greenery

Ionian Islands · Ionian Sea · GPS: 38.1754° N, 20.5692° E

Kefalonia is ideal for those who want to experience a Greece completely different from the familiar image of whitewashed houses and blue windows. Here, the lush green vegetation takes centre stage. You will find enchanted forests, mountains hiding secrets, and charming little villages with an old-world atmosphere overlooking emerald-coloured bays.

A mountainous landscape dominated by the legendary Mount Ainos, breathtaking panoramic roads, dramatic cliffs and fairytale beaches such as the iconic Myrtos, Antisamos and Petani. Missing the villages of Assos or Fiskardo, with their romantic little corners, would be almost unforgivable, while those looking for a slightly livelier atmosphere will find Argostoli the perfect place.

Kefalonia is one of those islands that encourages adventure and exploration. It is a real pleasure to stop in tiny villages and appreciate the slow passage of time, or set off in search of beaches and secluded coves where you can completely unwind and let the sound of the sea wash over you.

Who do we recommend it to? Everyone! Kefalonia has a way of winning people over and satisfying almost every kind of holiday wish. Just bear in mind that older travellers and families with very young children may find some journeys a little challenging, as the island is quite large and distances, combined with sometimes winding roads, can make getting around more demanding.

Our advice: take your time. Kefalonia is an island to be experienced without rushing or following an exhausting schedule. Choosing the right area to stay is particularly important here too, so that you don’t end up wasting precious holiday time travelling from one place to another every day.

7. Skiathos: a carefree holiday full of simple pleasures

Northern Sporades · Northwestern Aegean Sea · GPS: 39.1620° N, 23.4900° E

A little gem that has truly blossomed in recent years and, despite its small size, offers all the ingredients for an unforgettable holiday.

Its hilly landscape is covered in fragrant Mediterranean vegetation and pine forests where you could almost imagine mischievous little woodland elves hiding among the trees. In some places, the greenery stretches almost to the sea, creating enchanting scenery. There are plenty of soft sandy beaches, such as Koukounaries, Agia Paraskevi and Vromolimnos, perfect for a wonderfully lazy day by the water.

Skiathos Town, the island’s capital, is lively and full of energy, bustling with tavernas, souvenir shops and little bars where you can party until sunrise.

Who do we recommend it to? Families with young or older children, groups of young friends attracted by its lively yet sophisticated nightlife, older travellers who appreciate having everything within easy reach, and solo travellers who will rarely feel alone here.

Our advice: Skiathos is one of the few Greek islands with an efficient public transport service that reaches almost every area.

Holidays in Greece 2027: start dreaming about yours!

Have you already found the island for next summer, or are you still unsure whether to choose the Cyclades, the lush green landscapes of the Ionian Islands or the irresistible charm of the Dodecanese?

Don’t worry, I’m here to help you find the solution that suits you best. These days, everyone seems to think that reading a couple of reviews and looking at three photographs is enough to organise the perfect holiday. But that isn’t always the case. A couple has very different needs from a family with children, and choosing the right island and the right area to stay is essential if you want to enjoy a peaceful holiday that lives up to all your expectations.

Simply tell me what you imagine and what you would love from your holiday. You can fill in the quotation request form with the information requested, including your budget, which is an essential detail when searching for the right options. I will then get in touch with you, first of all to introduce myself and have a friendly chat, so I can better understand what to suggest.

Your enquiry is completely free and comes with no obligation.

Because the perfect holiday doesn’t necessarily have to be on a famous island where everyone goes. It should be on the island that lights a spark inside you and makes you want to return to Greece again and again.

Always remember, it is Greece that calls you, not the other way around, and your dream holiday might be much closer than you think!
