Tinos

How to get to Tinos

2 minutes to read

Here is another little pearl of the Cyclades Islands Tinos Island. We find it in the northern part of the archipelago between Andros and the glamorous Mykonos which is quite the opposite of Tinos.

An island where religion and tradition are fixed points, here there are no transgressions, only mysticism and inner peace. Tinos island is for connoisseurs only, it is refined, sophisticated, encompasses all the essences of true Greece and leaves no doubt about its origin or personality.

Destination especially for pilgrims who come from every corner of the country to the Sanctuary of the Virgin Mary Evangelist known as Megalochari (she who grants graces), considered the protector of Greece where every 25 March, 15 August and 15 September, gathers faithful who kneel they walk the road that climbs up the mountain to the sacred temple as a sign of sacrifice, devotion and with the hope of receiving the requested grace.

But Tinos is not only religion, it is also a fantastic island to choose for a holiday in Greece. Its coast is steep with many small bays that hide enchanting sandy or pebble beaches, mountain and seaside villages where you can breathe a still genuine and intact atmosphere, all to be discovered and where you can stop to eat in a typical tavern and taste ancient flavours. A nature of heartbreaking beauty with crystal clear waters, with intense colors and above all not besieged by mass tourism.

You choose a holiday in Tinos to spend moments in absolute tranquillity, enveloped in an aura of peace where time seems to tick even more slowly, where you can recharge your batteries and where everything is suspended between sky, sea and land amidst the scents of the Mediterranean scrub with its aromatic herbs, chamomile, saltiness and the scent of incense.

Tinos can be reached with a flight to Athens or Mykonos and then with the ferry there are no other possibilities as there is no airport on the island.

From Athens: flights to the Greek capital can now be found everywhere both in Italy and in the rest of Europe. During the summer period they are increased so it will not be difficult to get advantageous rates if you book well in advance. Once you arrive in Athens you have to continue by sea. You can choose whether from Piero or from Rafina here are the shipping companies that make the route. Consider 2 to 4 hours of navigation.

From Mykonos: definitely the most convenient since Tinos is less than half an hour by boat. During the summer season there are many flights arriving from Italy and from all over Europe, it is up to you to find the closest and most convenient one. Once landed in Mykonos we embark towards Tinos. Remember that in Mykonos there are two ports and that there are connections from both, it always depends on where you decide to embark.
