Kokkina Beach Syros

2 minutes to read

The particular Kokkina Beach we find it in the southwest part of the Syros Island less than a kilometer from the Foinikas village.

A remote coast once frequented by naturists who unfortunately today have had to move to other shores as a parking lot has arisen close to the shore and consequently nudism is prohibited. Perfect for those who love tranquility and total relaxation and want to spend a day at the beach without noise or worries and only benefit from the warm sunrays.

The Kokkina Beach which in Greek means red, has a small coast of pebbles mixed with sand with a reddish color like the rocks behind it, clean, crystalline and almost always calm waters, a blue sea that is sometimes turquoise with emerald reflections from the seabed that descends slowly, ideal for families with children and for those who love to swim. Opposite the Kokkina beach is the uninhabited islet of Psathonisi which thanks to its position shelters it from the winds which cyclically blow over the Greek Islands. Be careful because there are many sea urchins so it would be better if you had rock shoes with you so as not to ruin your holiday in Syros with a sting.

It is equipped with sunbeds and straw umbrellas while for those who prefer do-it-yourself it will be possible to spread out your towel in the point that will inspire you most and benefit from the precious tamarisk trees that frame the coast during the hottest hours of the day . As for the restaurant instead you will have to take care of it, there are no kiosks or taverns on the beach so either you bring drinks and food with you or you can go to the nearby and picturesque Finikas village where you will only find that you are spoiled for choice between bars for quick snacks and light or a classic tavern where you can savor the delights of classic Greek and territorial cuisine. The village of Fonikas and its surroundings can also be a moment to break up the day on the beach with a nice exploratory walk through its narrow streets and the territory.

How to get to Kokkina Beach

If you are independent and have a car or scooter, head south on the west coast. Keeping the village of Foinikas as a reference point, reachable from wherever you have decided to stay during your holiday in Greece in Syros by following the comfortable main road and road signs. Once you arrive in Foinaks follow the signs to Kokkina.

For those who are not independent, they can opt for a public bus from Ermoupolis to Foinikas and there continue on foot to Kokkina arriving near a sheep pen, from there go down the hill through a cornfield to a fence with a door, pass it and follow north.

One of the most peaceful and panoramic beaches on the island, perhaps a little challenging to reach but worthy of being included among the things to see in Syros to stay in close contact with nature and experience a wonderful day at the beach.
